Officials have been ordered to ensure every notice to electors is delivered by the BLO in person.
Synopsis: The Election Commission has extended Telangana’s SIR schedule, pushing the publication of final electoral rolls to November 9. The extension follows a request from the state CEO. Meanwhile, Chief Minister Revanth Reddy has alleged a conspiracy to delete 1 crore votes in the state using SIR.
The Election Commission of India (ECI) has revised the schedule for the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) exercise in Telangana. According to the newly announced schedule, the publication of the final electoral rolls has been extended by around a month to November 9. It was earlier scheduled to be published on October 19.
The deadline for filing claims and objections to the draft rolls has been extended from September 16 to October 7.
Notices will be issued, and the claims will be disposed of by November 5, according to the new schedule.
The announcement came shortly after Telangana Chief Electoral Officer C Sudharsan Reddy held a video conference with the Commissioner of GHMC, District Election Officers (DEOs) and Electoral Registration Officers (EROs) in the state on Monday, September 7.
The CEO had written to the ECI last week requesting an extension of the SIR process. At the meeting on Monday, he reviewed the progress with the DEOs of all the districts about notices, hearing schedules, and disposal of pending cases.
The CEO also issued a detailed set of instructions to the officials.
Officials have been ordered to ensure every notice to electors is delivered by the BLO in person. BLOs are free to seek help from Booth Level Agents (BLAs) to locate elector addresses, especially in the urban areas.
Officials were instructed to utilise the additional personnel and logins assigned in every district and to avoid delaying the SIR process.
The CEO said the Un-Mapping and Anomalies case lists must be shared with the political parties during the meetings and told the authorities to encourage BLAs’ active involvement during the claims and objections period.
BLOs, BLO Supervisors and AEROs have been directed to ensure proper uploading of documents as per the ECI guidelines. EROs/AEROs will be responsible for any mistakes committed during data entry and digitisation.
The BLO supervisors have been instructed to visit the homes of Senior Citizens and persons with disabilities (PwDs).
Officials have also been directed to keep help desks operational to assist the electors.

Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy on Monday alleged that the SIR was a tactic being employed by the BJP to win elections in Telangana after its setbacks in the last general election. He accused the Union Government of using the exercise to delete votes opposed to the BJP, claiming that SC, ST and minority communities were the primary targets.

The CM claimed that the BJP had implemented a similar strategy in West Bengal where anti-BJP voters were systematically removed from the electoral rolls. He also alleged a conspiracy to delete 1 crore votes in Telangana and added that private agencies were being hired for the purpose.
He accused the BJP of exploiting the ECI for its own political agenda. The CM also questioned why the BRS party was maintaining silence on ‘vote theft’ through the SIR.
