Synopsis: The Telangana Police suspended two officers from the Shabad Police Station after a POCSO case accused killed six people, including the survivor and his own family. Two FIRs were registered against the accused following the murder spree.
The Telangana Police suspended two officers of the Shabad Police Station in the Rangareddy district following public outrage over the handling of a Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) case after the accused, Parvathi Raj Kumar, allegedly murdered six people, including the survivor and his own family.
In an order issued on Saturday, 11 July, Future City Police Commissioner Tarun Joshi suspended Sub-Inspector (SI) Ramesh, citing negligence in duty. Hours later, Circle Inspector (CI) B Kantha Reddy was also suspended on the same grounds. The orders precede a formal inquiry into the officers’ conduct.
The suspensions followed a wave of protests outside the Shabad Police Station, where grieving relatives and residents blocked roads and demanded accountability. They accused the officers of ignoring earlier warnings that a family was under threat from Raj Kumar.
Some protesters went further, alleging that the two officers had actively helped him avoid arrest. Unverified claims have also circulated locally that money changed hands to secure his release.
Protesters called off their roadblock once the suspensions were confirmed. Authorities said the inquiry into the two suspended officers will run alongside the ongoing investigation into the murders.
According to the Future City Police Commissionerate, a vehicle used by the accused was spotted near a railway track in Chegur, but he was not inside. As Raj Kumar remains at large, a ₹2 lakh reward has been announced for information leading to his arrest.
Two FIRs were registered at Shabad Police Station against Raj Kumar following the murder spree.
According to the FIR filed by Raj Kumar’s brother-in-law, K Sanjeeva, the accused was a habitual offender. Raj Kumar physically and verbally abused his wife, Saritha, who, according to her brother, was ostracised by the accused’s family due to their inter-caste marriage.
Sanjeeva also alleged that the 31-year-old was addicted to online gaming and betting apps and had reportedly lost a significant amount of money.
According to the complaint filed by the minor survivor’s maternal uncle, the accused had been harassing her for almost a year, pestering her to talk to him over the phone.
In May 2026, when the 17-year-old was returning home after appearing for an exam in Shamshabad, Raj Kumar followed and harassed her. The victim escaped and, with the help of her family, filed a police complaint at the Shabad Police Station.
Despite registering an FIR under the POCSO Act, Shabad police have allegedly delayed arresting Raj Kumar, who later obtained anticipatory bail from the Rangareddy District Court.
According to the sources in the police department, oversight of POCSO cases filed at stations under the commissionerate is meant to rest with the division’s Assistant Commissioner of Police. But the two suspended officers reportedly passed down inaccurate updates to their superiors, bypassing standard procedures.
Meanwhile, backlash is mounting against the Telangana police’s handling of POCSO cases across the state, with many highlighting a similar delay in the arrest of Bandi Sai Bageerath, son of Union Minister of State Bandi Sanjay.
BRS Telangana General Secretary RS Praveen Kumar held a press conference at Telangana Bhavan on Saturday, and said, “The survivor’s mother expressed fear about what would happen to her family after learning about the Shabad case. They are afraid. They even asked me if there was a way to cancel his bail.”
There is also growing outrage against multiple POCSO-accused individuals obtaining bail, with criticism directed at the public prosecutors. Former minister and BRS Working President KT Rama Rao called the Telangana government-appointed public prosecutors incompetent and unprepared.
“This is an utter failure of governance by the Revanth Reddy government. We have come to a stage where sexual abuse survivors and their families are afraid of filing a complaint,” said KTR.
He also expressed concern about the state of safety and security for women and children in the state.
