Synopsis: The Telangana High Court has directed Saifabad police to preserve CCTV footage from 14 September after two aides of BRS working president KT Rama Rao alleged that unidentified persons attacked them inside the police station during questioning.
The Telangana High Court on Wednesday, 16 September directed the Saifabad police to preserve CCTV footage from the police station on 14 September after two aides of Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) working president KT Rama Rao (KTR) alleged that unidentified persons attacked them inside the station while they were being questioned.
Justice Tangirala Madhavi Devi directed the police to preserve footage covering the entry and exit points of the Saifabad police station and, if covered by cameras, the interrogation room, between 6 pm and 7 pm on 14 September. The footage is to be furnished to the court on a pen drive, along with a certificate confirming its source and authenticity, by the next hearing.
The petition was filed by Manikya Mahesh, public relations officer to KTR, and Mahender Reddy, his personal assistant. They told the court that they had been summoned to the police station on 14 September and interrogated. They were subsequently served another notice under Section 35(3) of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita, directing them to appear again on 17 September.

Their counsel submitted that, in view of what allegedly occurred during their earlier visit, the two petitioners feared for their safety during the next appearance. The court directed the police to take adequate precautionary measures to ensure their safety when they appear on 17 September.
The Government Pleader for Home accepted notice on behalf of the State, the Director General of Police, the Hyderabad Commissioner of Police and the other respondents. He sought time to file a counter-affidavit. The court posted the matter for further hearing on 30 September.

The alleged attack followed notices issued by Saifabad Sub-Inspector Satyanarayana to Mahesh and Mahender Reddy in relation to a case registered against them under provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
The case followed a complaint by B Jangaiah, Reserve Inspector at the CAR headquarters, alleging that the two had obstructed police personnel in the discharge of their duties.
The case relates to a protest staged by BRS MLAs near Assembly Gate 3 on 7 September, the opening day of the Assembly’s monsoon session. The MLAs wore black T-shirts during the protest.
The two men appeared for questioning at 10 am on Monday along with their lawyers. BRS leader T Harish Rao said the alleged attack on the two aides took place despite a High Court order restraining action against Mahesh and Mahender Reddy until further directions.
KTR described the alleged attack as “an extremely heinous act” and demanded an inquiry by a sitting judge. He alleged that the attack took place after the two were summoned to the police station in connection with a politically motivated police case and held the Chief Minister responsible.
