Synopsis: BRS leader and Siddipet MLA T Harish Rao has alleged that about 15 masked police personnel tried to assault KT Rama Rao’s PRO Mahesh and PA Mahender Reddy inside Saifabad police station in Hyderabad on Monday evening. KTR and Rao alleged that the two men were attacked during questioning despite a High Court order restraining action against them. They demanded a judicial inquiry and the immediate release of the complete CCTV footage from the police station.
BRS leader and Siddipet MLA T Harish Rao has alleged that about 15 masked police personnel attempted to assault the public relations officer (PRO) and personal assistant (PA) of BRS working president KT Rama Rao inside the Saifabad police station in Hyderabad at around 6.30 pm on Monday, 14 September.
The two, identified as PRO Mahesh and PA Mahender Reddy, had been summoned to the station for questioning. Rao alleged that Task Force personnel had been sent by the Congress government to attack the two men.
In a post on X, Rao said the two were summoned on Ganesh Chaturthi and that the masked personnel attempted to enter the interrogation room and assault them. He said members of the BRS legal team who were present at the station noticed the incident, raised an alarm and intervened, following which the personnel fled.

“It is utterly reprehensible that the government itself sent masked Task Force police to the police station to attempt an assault,” he said.
Rao also alleged that the incident took place inside the police station in the presence of police personnel.

On 7 September, the opening day of the Assembly’s monsoon session, BRS MLAs staged a protest wearing black T-shirts near Assembly Gate 3.
Saifabad police registered a case against Mahender Reddy and Mahesh under sections of the BNS based on a complaint filed by B Jangaiah, Reserve Inspector at the CAR headquarters, alleging that they had obstructed police personnel in the discharge of their duties.
They approached the High Court in connection with the case, following which the court directed the police not to take any coercive action against them until further orders. However, it also directed the two to co-operate with the investigation.
Following the High Court’s directions, Saifabad SI Satyanarayana issued notices, and Mahesh and Mahender appeared for questioning at 10 am on Monday along with their lawyers.
After questioning them for some time at the police station, the police took the two to the Assembly for a scene reconstruction. They were then brought back to the police station. However, reports emerged in the evening that some unidentified people had attacked the two at the police station.
Harish Rao said the alleged attack was carried out despite a High Court order restraining action against Mahesh and Mahender Reddy until further directions.
“Even though the High Court has issued orders not to take any action until further directives are released in this case… disregarding even those and attempting this attack is nothing but a contempt of court orders,” he said.
KTR termed the alleged attack as “an extremely heinous act” and demanded an inquiry by a sitting judge.
“Under Revanth Reddy’s rule, a rule of rowdies and goons is prevailing in the State. Is this the work of Congress goons? Or was this attack carried out as part of a conspiracy by police personnel in plain clothes wearing masks?” he said in a post on X.
He alleged that the attack was carried out after the two were summoned to the station in connection with a politically motivated police case and said the Chief Minister was responsible.

“There is absolutely no doubt that the Chief Minister was behind this attack, after the two men were summoned to the station for questioning in a politically motivated police case and were attacked in the presence of police personnel. They were asked to come for questioning in the morning, but the questioning was deliberately delayed until dark, making it clear that there was a pre-planned conspiracy to carry out the attack,” he said.
“This heinous act was therefore carried out as part of political vendetta.”
He said Chief Minister Revanth Reddy, who also holds the Home portfolio, should take full responsibility for the incident.
He also demanded immediate protection and better medical treatment for Mahesh and Mahender Reddy, whom he said were injured in the alleged attack.
KTR and Harish Rao demanded that the complete CCTV footage of the incident, including footage from cameras inside and outside the police station, be preserved and released immediately.
Rao also demanded that the masked personnel be identified, an FIR be registered against them and they be arrested.
“Chief Minister Revanth Reddy, who also handles the Home Department responsibilities, must immediately respond to this incident. The full CCTV footage related to this incident that occurred in the police station must be released immediately,” Harish Rao said.
“When attempts are being made to attack individuals in police custody right inside police stations… what is the government doing? Will they resort to attacks just because we expose the government’s mistakes?” he said.
“If assaults are happening even in police stations, the government must explain whether law and order exists in the state or not,” he said.
