Synopsis: A special task force received information that Uday Krishna Reddy was proceeding to Hyderabad to attend a High Court hearing. He was picked up from Damaracherla.
Hyderabad task force police picked up sex-abuse accused IPS trainee Uday Krishna Reddy at Damaracherla, Nalgonda district, on the outskirts of Hyderabad on Tuesday, 28 July.
Reddy was on his way to appear in the Telangana High Court for attending the hearing of his quash petition, scheduled on Wednesday, 29 July.
Reddy has been accused of sexually abusing a batchmate at the Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel National Police Academy in Hyderabad.
DCP Lavanya Naik of the Women’s Safety Wing is investigating the case. The DCP and Inspector Jyotsna recorded the accused’s statement.
Reddy was taken to Attapur police station at 8:30 am on Wednesday, where the FIR was filed. His arrest was recorded at Attapur.
The police personnel are expected to file a remand report on Wednesday, following which Reddy would be produced at Upparpally Court for custody. He was taken from Attapur to the Osmania General Hospital for a mandatory medical check-up.

Reddy has been accused of sexual assault, abuse, and blackmail by a fellow trainee at the Academy in Shivarampally. The woman officer trainee approached Attapur police station on 18 July. The allegations caused a social media storm.
Following the FIR’s registration, Reddy was admitted to Jayanti Hospital in SR Nagar after a suicide note led his family members to believe he had tried to end his life. A medical examination later found that excessive alcohol consumption made him fall unconscious.
The police reportedly visited Reddy’s two official addresses in Hyderabad last week to serve him with a notice but couldn’t locate him, leading them to believe he was absconding. They were also unable to reach him via phone or trace his location.
Reddy appeared on a local news channel for a video interview on Tuesday, saying he was in his native village, Ullapalem, in the Prakasam district of Andhra Pradesh. He claimed that his grandmother fell ill upon hearing the news of allegations against him.
He acknowledged that the police tried to serve him notice but said that the addresses they went to were actually his temporary residences. He denied absconding.

Reddy had filed a writ petition in the Telangana High Court seeking quashing of the FIR against him. The petition is listed for hearing on 29 July, after multiple adjournments. The court had earlier refused to grant him interim relief from arrest.
Reddy was travelling back to Hyderabad to attend the court hearing. The task force police received information about his return from Andhra Pradesh and detained him at Damarcharla upon his entry into Telangana.
