Synopsis: Doctors at a Hyderabad hospital have ruled out self-harm in the hospitalisation of IPS trainee Uday Krishna Reddy—booked over allegations of sexually assaulting and harassing a fellow trainee—saying he collapsed due to alcohol intoxication after police initially suspected a suicide attempt. On Monday, a purported suicide note attributed to Reddy circulated on social media and was shared by some media outlets without concealing the survivor’s identity.
Hours after IPS trainee Uday Krishna Reddy—booked for allegedly sexually assaulting a batchmate at the Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel National Police Academy (SVPNPA) in Hyderabad—was rushed to Jayanthi Super Speciality Hospital on the morning of Monday, 20 July, after being found unconscious, doctors treating him ruled out self-harm, attributing his condition instead to heavy alcohol consumption.
Telangana Police had initially believed Reddy had attempted suicide after he was reportedly found motionless in bed, surrounded by alcohol and sanitiser bottles, by his brother and friends at the family’s home in Moti Nagar.
According to doctors at the hospital, a stomach wash turned up no trace of tablets, while blood and urine tests came back negative for drugs. However, his blood alcohol level was found to be significantly elevated.
Doctors concluded that alcohol intoxication, not deliberate self-harm, was behind the collapse. Reddy regained consciousness by the afternoon and remains under observation.

In a statement posted on social media on Sunday, Reddy termed the complaint baseless and expressed confidence in the legal process.
On Monday, a suicide note purportedly penned by Reddy circulated on social media. In the note, Reddy wrote that the allegations against him were fabricated and that he had proof to counter them.
As in the recent Shabad POCSO case, several media houses once again revealed the survivor’s personal details by sharing Reddy’s note without censoring her name.
The Attapur police registered a case against Reddy on Saturday, 18 July, based on a complaint filed by the survivor. He is accused of sexual harassment, assault, criminal intimidation and blackmail under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, along with sections of the Information Technology Act relating to privacy violations and the circulation of sexually explicit material.
The complainant has alleged that the harassment began in late June and included abusive messages, derogatory remarks made in front of other trainees, physical confinement, and an assault during which she was allegedly choked and threatened with a knife.
The survivor has also alleged that a private video of her was recorded without her consent and sent to her husband.
Reddy is currently under investigation by officials at the National Police Academy, alongside the probe being carried out by the Attapur police. The academy has made no public statement so far.
