Police make 3rd arrest in Hyderabad car-ramming case as 2nd injured battles for his life

The police on Wednesday, 5 July, arrested a third person in connection with a mother-daughter duo being killed and their friend injured a day earlier by a speeding car under the Narsingi Police Station limits on the outskirts of Hyderabad.

M Ganesh is the same age as Mohammed Badi Uddin Khadri — the 19-year-old main accused who was the first person to be arrested in the case.

Injured Malavika alias Kavitha, who was with the mother-daughter duo, is currently undergoing treatment at Olive Hospital in Mehdipatnam. She is reported to be in stable condition now.

Meanwhile, a fourth person — a retired IT professional — was also severely injured because the car hit him along with the trio of women, and it has come to light that he is currently in critical condition.

The 61-year-old Mohammad Intakhab Khan is fighting for his life at the Apollo Hospital in the Jubilee Hills area of Hyderabad.

Multiple injuries to Khan

A former employee of IBM, Intakhab would regularly go for morning walks in the area. His family described him as the fittest among them, despite being older than them all. Khan is a native of Bihar, but settled in Hyderabad around two decades ago.

His son Ali Intakhab told South First: “He is a very disciplined person and very concerned about his health. He also adheres to a strict diet.”

He added about his father, who retired a couple of years ago: “He wakes up at 5.30 am. Sometimes he goes on a walk within our housing society, but at other times he takes to the road to keep fit.”

However, Intakhab’s brother Parvez Alam Khan — a social worker who flew down from Delhi after coming to know of the accident — appeared miffed at the police for allegedly not properly inquiring after the victim.

Intakhab sustained various fractures in different parts of his body, and also experienced a haemorrhage in the brain.

According to his kin, Intakhab suffered fractures in the cervix, spine, ribs, arms, and right leg.

“He is on a ventilator right now. Doctors told us that cervical and spinal surgeries would be done at a later stage,” Parvez told South First.

‘Arrest parents of the accused’

The Narisingi police told South First that Badi Uddin, the prime accused in the case, was the son of a businessman.

They added that he and his friends were headed to a farmhouse in Moinabad in the Ranga Reddy district to celebrate his birthday when the Honda Civic car swerved and rammed into the four victims on the Hydershakote Road at 6.11 am.

Displaying a lack of accountability, the accused abandoned their damaged car at the scene and proceeded to the farmhouse to celebrate Badi Uddin’s birthday, said the police, noting that they left the victims behind.

While the cops have arrested him and Ganesh, the third to be held in the case, they are said to be on the lookout for the other two occupants of the car, identified as Mohammed Ibrahim and Mohammed Faisan.

Badi Uddin’s 18-year-old friend Abdul Rehman was the second to be arrested because he owned the car that rammed into the morning walkers, and lent it to his friend despite knowing that he did not have a driver’s license.

Meanwhile, Intakhab Khan’s kins demanded that the cops arrest the parents of Badi Uddin.

“How can they give access to a car to these 18 and 19-year-olds, who don’t even have a licence? Their carelessness has caused such a huge tragedy,” Khan’s brother Parvez said.
