In a tragic incident on Hydershakote Main Road under Narsingi Police Station in Hyderabad on the morning of Tuesday, 4 July, two women lost their lives and another woman was severely injured after being struck by an out-of-control car driven by a teenager who did not have a driving licence.

The police have arrested the accused driver, 19-year-old Mohammed Badi Uddin Khadri. He is a student of Avinash College, currently pursuing a BBA degree there.

According to the police, the three women — identified as Anuradha (48), her daughter Mamatha (25), and Anuradha’s friend Malavika (36) had gone for a morning walk on Tuesday.

At around 6.11 am, when these women were walking from KK Convention and Banquet Hall towards Bandlaguda on the footpath, and had reached Sun City Main Road, a Honda Civic car dashed into them from behind.

The video of the accident went viral and shocked the public in Hyderabad.

The details

“At around 8:30 am, I was going to see my plot, located in the Kalimandir area. When I reached the Sun City, I noticed that a large number of people had gathered at a spot. I immediately went near the spot to see what happened. There, I noticed that my cousin Anuradha and her daughter Mamatha lying dead on the footpath, and Malavika was injured,” Anuradha’s cousin Praveen Kumar told South First.

“Then people told me that a car hit them. I informed the police. They were on a morning walk when this incident happened,” he added.

The car was allegedly travelling at an excessive speed, which is why it caused the demise of the mother and the daughter when it collided with them.

Narsingi Station House Officer (SHO) V Shiva Kumar told South First that Badi Uddin and three of his friends were celebrating his birthday and were headed towards Moinabad.

“They were driving at a high speed. When he applied the brakes to halt the car, the vehicle skidded and dashed into the three persons. Looking at the situation, all four fled the spot,” said the SHO to South First.

The police also said that the accused did not have any driving licence.

The lone survivor of this incident, Malvika, sustained severe injuries and is now admitted to Olive Hospital.

A right-wing handle tried to give the incident a communal colour after the name of the driver came to light.
