Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday, 10 May, inaugurated and laid the foundation for multiple development projects worth ₹9,400 in Telangana.

The projects spanned various sectors, including railways, roads, energy infrastructure and textiles.

Telangana Governor Shiv Pratap Shukla, Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy, Union Minister G Kishan Reddy and several other leaders attended the event held at the Hyderabad International Convention Centre in Gachibowli.

Modi later addressed a public meeting at Parade Grounds in Secunderabad.

The Prime Minister laid the groundwork for widening National Highway-167 into four lanes from Gudebellur to Mahabubnagar on the Hyderabad-Panaji Economic Corridor, a route that connects Telangana to Karnataka. Once completed, the road would cut travel time and logistics costs across both states.

Modi also laid the foundation stone for the Zaheerabad Industrial Area in the Sangareddy district. He described it as part of a national drive to build industrial smart cities equipped with world-class infrastructure, a reliable power supply and advanced ICT networks—conditions designed to attract investments from global markets.

He said the area would house car manufacturing, machinery and food processing industries, generating jobs for workers and new markets for farmers in Telangana.

Modi inaugurated sections of the railways’ Kazipet-Vijayawada multi-tracking project and the Kazipet Rail Under Rail Bypass, both of which would reduce congestion on one of India’s busiest freight and passenger corridors.

He pointed to a dramatic shift in railway investment since 2014, noting that the undivided Andhra Pradesh received less than ₹1,000 crore in annual railway allocation before the bifurcation.

Telangana’s railway budget now stands at approximately ₹5,500 crore, with ongoing projects in the state totalling around ₹50,000 crore. Five Vande Bharat and six Amrit Bharat express trains currently run across Telangana.

The Indian Oil greenfield Petroleum, Oil and Lubricants terminal at Malkapur was also opened on Sunday. Modi said the terminal would address the growing energy demands of Telangana and strengthen the region’s supply chain, a priority he linked to India’s broader push for energy security.

India’s first PM MITRA park opens in Warangal

The most symbolically important was the launch of the Kakatiya Mega Textile Park in Warangal as India’s first fully functional PM MITRA Park.

The facility, developed with an estimated cost of ₹1,700 crore, operationalises the Centre’s 5F framework: Farm to Fibre to Factory to Fashion to Foreign.

Modi connected the park to India’s historical identity as a global textile power, saying the country once led the world in textile production and that initiatives like PM MITRA work to rebuild that position. Units operating within the park would benefit from the Centre’s Production Linked Incentive scheme alongside dedicated infrastructure support.

He said the park would create a large number of jobs, with particular opportunities opening up for women in the region.

Revanth invokes Manmohan Singh

Chief Minister Revanth Reddy took the platform before Modi and used it to press the case for cooperative federalism, wrapping a political argument inside a historical parallel.

He reminded the Prime Minister that the Gujarat Model, often cited by Modi himself as a governance template, took shape when the then-Prime Minister Manmohan Singh extended significant central support to Modi as the chief minister of Gujarat.

“Modi ji, you built the Gujarat Model with the support of Dr Manmohan Singh. Today, the people of Telangana seek that same spirit of cooperation. We believe that, just as Dr Manmohan Singh stood by you for Gujarat’s growth, you will now stand by Telangana,” Revanth said.

Revanth, who sat beside Modi on stage, maintained what observers noted as a cordial exchange with the Prime Minister throughout the event.

A $3 trillion vision and a task force proposal

Revanth used the occasion to present an economic roadmap for Telangana aligned with the Centre’s Viksit Bharat 2047 initiative. He set out a target of a $1 trillion economy for the state by 2034, rising to $3 trillion by 2047.

He noted that Telangana accounts for 3 percent of India’s population while contributing 5 percent to the national GDP, an argument he framed as evidence that Telangana’s growth directly serves the national interest.

To accelerate development across India’s largest urban centres, Revanth proposed a Special Single Window Task Force within the Prime Minister’s Office. The task force, he argued, would expedite clearances for high-priority projects in Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, Kolkata, Bengaluru and Hyderabad, the six cities he described as the engines of India’s economic output.

He also sought a dedicated two-hour review session with the Prime Minister to push through approvals on specific projects: the Musi Riverfront Development, modelled on the Sabarmati Riverfront in Ahmedabad; an expanded Hyderabad Metro network; and a proposed 12-lane highway connecting Hyderabad to Machilipatnam.

Revanth added that the country must redirect its energy entirely toward development.

“Our priority is national security and national development. It is India first, people second, and party third,” he said.

‘Join us.’ Modi retorts

Modi responded to Revanth’s extended appeal for central cooperation. He expressed willingness to give Telangana everything the Centre had given Gujarat during his 10 years as the chief minister — but with a rider.

“But let me tell you from my knowledge that as soon as I do this, what you are getting now will be halved. You will not reach where you want to go. And that is why it is better you join me,” Modi said.

Modi’s statement was met with laughter from the audience. Revanth, seated nearby, did not visibly react.

After the HICC event, Modi moved to Parade Grounds in Secunderabad for a public gathering.

Malkajgiri Commissioner of Police B Sumathi said that 2,000 police personnel were deployed at the venue and the surrounding areas. The deployment effectively locked down a significant stretch of central Secunderabad for the duration of the Prime Minister’s visit.
