Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao on Monday, 24 April, called on people in Maharashtra not to feed grass to donkeys and expect milk from cows, in an oblique reference to the BRS’ political rival — the BJP.
Addressing his third well-attended public meeting at Aurangabad in the Marathwada region of Maharashtra, KCR asked the gathering to realise the power of the vote and bring about a change in the pathetic situation they were in now.
He said that, for once, they should think about themselves and support those who are thinking about their welfare, selflessly.

KCR’s speech lacked its usual high-voltage assault on the prime minister and the BJP. It was more advisory in nature, asking people — and farmers in particular — to fight for what was due to them.
He said, “The BRS took birth to fight for solutions to the pernicious problems afflicting farmers and others. It is a sad commentary that, in Maharashtra, where several rivers originate, people should suffer from drinking water problems.”
He added: I came to know that drinking water is being supplied once every eight days in Aurangabad, Akola, and Pune.”

The chief minister said that at a time when the entire world was changing, India, in spite of attaining freedom from the foreign yoke 75 years ago, is still where it was.
“See how countries like South Korea, Japan, Malaysia, and Singapore have progressed, and see where we are. We need to change our perspective since there is something seriously wrong with the present situation. To say that ‘daal me kuch kala hai’ is passé. These days, poora daal mein kaala hai,” he said.
BRS workers, who had expected fireworks from the Telangana leader, were disappointed as they expected him to go for Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s jugular after the BJP leader delivered an incendiary speech at Chevella in Ranga Reddy district on Sunday.
He said that “ulti ginti” (countdown) had begun for the BRS government and that after the BJP comes to power in the state, the government would go after all those involved in scams and question paper leak cases.
The chief minister made veiled references to the BJP government for taking the nation in the wrong direction. He said that it was time the people introspected and fight like tigers.
“There is a lot of fight in the people of Maharashtra. Arise and awake and fight against injustice. The BRS is with you,” he said. “People should fight and win. They have to help themselves. No one is going to your rescue,” he added.

The chief minister tried to hard-sell the Telangana Model of Development. He said that the best way to prevent him from visiting Maharashtra would be to implement all the schemes that are in force in Telangana. “Implement Dalit Bandhu. This is the land of Ambedkar. Honour him by emulating Telangana,” he said.
He recalled naming Telangana’s new secretariat building after the architect of the Indian Constitution. “I had asked the prime minister to name the new Parliament building after Ambedkar, but there was no response,” he said.
He made a fervent appeal to farmers not to end their lives by suicide when unable to break the shackles of usury.
“Taking your own life is not the solution to the problem. You have to assert yourself and fight for a change,” he said, asking them to repose faith in the BRS that it would fight for them.

“There is plenty of water in the country. There is no need for farmers to be disheartened. The BRS, after coming to power at the Centre, would ensure that all facilities are made available to farmers,” he added, following which he elicited repeated chants of “Ab ki bar Kisan Sarkar” several times.
Those who attended the public meeting included MPs K Keshava Rao, BB Patil, J Santosh Kumar, G Ranjith Reddy, and former chief secretary Somesh Kumar.
Earlier, KCR welcomed several Marathwada leaders into the BRS by making them wear the party’s kanduvas.
