Apparently eyeing zilla parishad elections in Maharashtra in the near future, BRS supremo and Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao will be addressing his third public meeting at Aurangabad in the neighbouring state on 24 April.

Since upgrading the TRS to BRS in 2022, KCR has been trying to increase the party’s presence in other states and, as part of this effort, he has made his foray into Maharashtra. He was pleasantly surprised at the interest the people evinced to his meetings at Nanded on 5 February and Kandar Loha on 26 March.

To make necessary preparations for his third public meeting, BRS legislator A Jeevan Reddy, along with other BRS leaders, performed a bhoomi pooja at the Jabinda Ground in Aurangabad.

Plans for Aurangabad event

The public meeting would be the largest ever held in Aurangabad where KCR is expected to explain to the people the Telangana model of development that would prove to be the panacea for all socio-economic problems that are plaguing the nation.

The chief minister is also expected to compare how the farmers are faring in Maharashtra versus those in Telangana. He may dwell on the distress in the farming sector in Maharashtra, which is forcing farmers to end their lives, and pointing out that a golden age could begin for them if the BRS came to power.

Jeevan Reddy, who spoke to reporters at the venue, said that the Aurangabad public meeting will remain a watershed in the politics of Maharashtra. The chief minister would explain various welfare schemes that the Telangana government was implementing for the farmers, he said.

He said that Maharashtra, which has stood first among all other states with its huge budget, stands last in the list in the implementation of welfare programmes for various sections of people, particularly farmers.

Unlike in BJP-ruled states, in Telangana, a conscientious effort is being made to make sure that the fruits of development and the benefit of all welfare schemes reach the targeted groups, regardless of their political affiliations, Reddy said.

Gearing up for the meeting

The BRS team that is making arrangements for the public meeting includes Zahirabad MP BB Patil, Irrigation Development Corporation Chairman Samudrala Venugopala Chary, BRS general secretary Himanshu Tewari, Maharashtra Kisan Samiti state president Manik Kadam, and vaastu expert Teja Sarma, among others.

Though the party made preparations for the public meeting at Amkhas, the police denied permission at the last minute citing security considerations.

The BRS workers were forced to look for alternative venues and finally decided on Jabinda in Aurangabad.

Though there is not enough time to make alternative arrangements, the party is going ahead nonetheless, as they have already given enough publicity for the programme in the Marathwada region from where a number of people are expected to attend.
