IMD issues third heatwave warning for several Telangana districts from 1 April

IMD forecast heatwave conditions in isolated pockets across several districts, with expected hazy morning conditions in Hyderabad.

Heatwave expected in Telangana.

Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) issued a heatwave warning for various regions of Telangana from 1 April to 3 April. It said that nights are expected to be warmer from Sunday, 31 March.

The heatwave warning comes at a time farmers are already suffering due to crop damages.

IMD forecast heatwave conditions in isolated pockets across several districts, with expected hazy morning conditions in Hyderabad and nearby regions.

Maximum temperatures are projected to reach 40 degree Celsius, with minimum temperatures around 25 degree Celsius. On Saturday, temperatures soared across Telangana, with many areas recording temperatures as high as 43 degree Celsius.

Records high temperatures

According to the record of the Telangana State Development Planning Society (TSDPS), Nalgonda had the highest recorded temperature of 40.2 degree Celsius followed by Nizamabad at 40.1 degree Celsius, Suryapet at 39.8 degree Celsius, and Sangareddy at 39.8 degree Celsius at noon on 31 March.

Meanwhile, Asif Nagar in Hyderabad recorded 39.7 degree Celsius, Kandukur in Rangareddy 39.7 degree Celsius, Medipally of Medchal- Malkjagiri 39.1 degree Celsius, and Bahadurpura of Hyderabad 39.1 degree Celsius.

On 30 March, Gattuppal in Nalgonda recorded the highest maximum temperature at 43.1 degree Celsius, followed by Bhadrachalam and Huzurnagar at 43 degree Celsius.

In the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) limits, temperatures exceeded 42 degree Celsius on the same day, with Uppal recording 42.4 degree Celsius, followed by Kukatpally at 41.7 degree Celsius, Nampally at 41.4 degree Celsius and Shaikpet at 41.1 degree Celsius.

Heatwave conditions expected

According to the IMD release, heatwave conditions are expected to occur in isolated pockets of several districts including Adilabad, Komaram Bheem Asifabad, Mancherial, Nirmal, Nizamabad, Jagtial, Karimnagar, Peddapalli, Jayashankar Bhupalpally, Mulugu, Khammam, Nalgonda, Suryapet, Kamareddy, Narayanpet, and Jogulamba Gadwal until 3 April.

In the weekly report of TSPDS from 23 to 29 March, it is said that very light to light Rainfall was recorded at isolated places in Adilabad, Nirmal, Nizamabad, Kamareddy, and Sangareddy districts from 24 to 26 March.

The highest rainfall — 8.3mm — was recorded at Adilabad Urban on 25 March. The highest temperature of 43.1 degree Celicius was recorded in Dasturabad (Nirmal) on 29 March while the lowest temperature of 17.5 degree Celicius at Nandanam (Yadadri Bhuvanagiri) on 25 March.

In the week from 30 March to 5 April, there is a high probability of heatwave over the northern and southern districts of the state.

The maximum temperatures are expected to be in the range of 39 degree Celsius to 44 degree Celsius and minimum temperatures to be in the range of 23 degree Celsius to 26 degree Celsius.
