Synopsis: Madannapet police have registered a formal case under BNS Sections 196(2) and 299, read with 3(5) BNS, provisions dealing with promoting enmity between communities and deliberately outraging religious feelings, based on a complaint from Pilli Prasad, a resident of the housing society and one of the Ganesh Mandapam organisers.
Three residents of a public housing society in Hyderabad’s Madannapet area were taken into police custody on Sunday, 20 September, after non-vegetarian waste was allegedly discarded at a Ganesh idol immersion and food distribution event, triggering communal tension.
According to Charminar Zone Deputy Commissioner of Police Kiran Khare, the incident occurred near the Double Bedroom Housing Society close to Chanchalguda X Roads.

According to the complaint, residents of the housing complex, along with members of the Ambedkar Association, had jointly organised Ganesh Navratri celebrations, including a mass food distribution (Annadanam) programme on Sunday.
At around 3 pm, as devotees were being served lunch, Mohammed Imran Qureshi, a resident of the complex’s B Block, along with a few other residents, allegedly threw meat waste from an upper floor onto the area near the distribution point. Prasad alleged the act was deliberate and intended to disturb religious harmony.
Officers rushed to the spot soon after being alerted and took Mohammad Imran Qureshi, Arshiya Begum, and Sameena into custody.
DCP Khare said the accused would face stringent legal action, with strong sections invoked against them, and that a detailed probe was underway to establish the exact sequence of events.

The incident sparked protests by BJP leaders and members of Hindu organisations in nearby Chanchalguda, who alleged an attempt to defile Ganesh prasad and demanded swift action against those responsible. Protesters raised slogans as police personnel moved in to control the situation.
Conflicting reports emerged on what was thrown. Khare described it as “non-veg material, like beef,” the FIR complaint refers only to “meat waste,” and other accounts describe it as a chicken bone.
An official at the Madannapet Police Station told South First that it was unclear what kind of meat it was. “We have sent the sample to the Forensic Science Lab. We cannot confirm what it is until we get the FSL report. It was a dry bone of meat,” he said.
