Synopsis: A 42-year-old autorickshaw driver, Mohammed Mukarram, was allegedly beaten to death by a group of men in Hyderabad following a dispute over a Rs 20 fare. According to a complaint by his daughter, the incident followed a heated exchange with a woman passenger. Police have registered a case against three men.
A 42-year-old autorickshaw driver was allegedly beaten to death by a group of men in Vattepally under Falaknuma police station limits in Hyderabad, Telangana, on Sunday evening, 20 September.
The deceased, Mohammed Mukarram, a resident of Roshan Colony in Mailardevpally, was allegedly attacked around 7.25 pm near a medical store opposite Nice Hotel. He was taken to Esra Hospital in Shah Ali Banda, where doctors declared him dead on arrival.
Falaknuma police have registered a case under Section 103(1) read with Section 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita based on a complaint filed by Mukarram’s daughter, Salma Begum, and named three men – Azeem, Shoaib and Imran.
AIMIM Bahadurpura MLA Mohammed Mubeen visited Esra Hospital and met Mukarram’s family. He called for a thorough investigation and stronger measures to curb street violence in the city.

The incident followed an argument Mukarram had with a woman passenger earlier that evening, according to the complaint filed by Salma Begum.
The woman had insisted on paying the ₹20 fare with ₹100 and ₹200 notes. Mukarram told her he did not have change, following which the exchange became heated, the complaint said.
The woman was then seen making a phone call and threatening Mukarram, according to the complaint. Mukarram left without collecting the fare.
Shortly afterwards, a fellow autorickshaw driver called Mukarram and asked him to come to Nice Hotel to sort out the issue. When he reached the spot, a group of men allegedly surrounded him and repeatedly punched him. He collapsed at the scene.
