Special inspection drive at dairy units. (TG SAFE/ X)
Synopsis: Across the establishments inspected, TG SAFE reported heavy presence of houseflies, lack of water-testing, pest-control and health records of food handlers, mould growth in damp areas, patchy flooring with water stagnation, rusty equipment and pipes and improper maintenance of drainage systems.
Houseflies, mould growth, water stagnation, rusty equipment and poor drainage were among the hygiene violations found during a special inspection drive at dairy units in Hyderabad and adjoining districts, the Telangana Standards Authority for Food and Essential Drugs (TG SAFE) said on Tuesday, 22 September.
Ten enforcement teams comprising food safety officers and police personnel inspected 20 dairy establishments as part of the drive. The authority said the inspections were part of a special enforcement drive covering dairy units in the core urban region and adjoining districts.
Following the inspections, 18 samples were lifted on suspicion of adulteration, FSSAI licences of two dairy units were suspended, improvement notices will be issued to 10 establishments and show-cause notices to three others.
The authority also closed one dairy unit for operating without an FSSAI licence under unhygienic conditions.

TG SAFE said the FSSAI licences of Sapthagiri Foods at Sagar Road, Karmanghat, and All Rich Dairy Pvt Ltd at Pasumamula village, Abdullapurmet, were suspended with instructions to stop business operations immediately in the interest of public health.
At Sapthagiri Foods, officials found uneven flooring with moss growth, inadequate drainage, heavy presence of houseflies and a lack of proper pest-control measures. Garbage was found accumulated at several places.
Officials also said records of testing of water and milk were not available and flagged inadequate hygiene among food handlers.
The authority said the licence was suspended for improper handling and processing of dairy products under unhygienic conditions.
At All Rich Dairy, inspectors reported housefly and cockroach infestation, slippery flooring with water stagnation, inadequate lighting, pan masala spitting inside the cold room and flaking of walls and ceilings. Officials also found inadequate and unhygienic personnel hygiene facilities.
TG SAFE said improvement notices would be issued to 10 establishments for rectification of lapses identified during the inspections.
These include Federated White Nectar Private Limited at Injapur, Shanthi Farm and Agri Products at Palmakole, Dairy Spot at Bairamalguda, Sri Laxmi Narsimha Milk Traders at Karmanghat, Hatsun Dairy at Kadthal, Arvais Nature Products Pvt Ltd at Batasingaram, Nature Farm at Gudur, VK Dairy Essential Pvt Ltd at Muchintal, Sri Geetha Milk Traders & Processing Unit at Nadergul and Sids Farm Pvt Ltd at Shabad.
The establishments will be reinspected to verify compliance with food safety norms, after which further action may be taken, TG SAFE said.

Show-cause notices will be issued to Saritha Dairy at Jillelaguda, Sri Sai Dairy Products at Almasguda in Balapur and Milky Plus Foods Pvt Ltd, also known as Gayathri Dairy, at Nandigama village.
TG SAFE said further action would be initiated for imposing penalties based on the violations recorded during the inspections.
Meanwhile, Venkata Shiva Milk Point at Hayathnagar was closed after officials found that it was operating without an FSSAI licence and under unhygienic conditions.

The enforcement teams also inspected Beejapuri Dairy Pvt Ltd, which operates as Country Delight, at Chinna Kanjarla in Patancheru, Sangareddy district.
Officials found that the FSSAI licence was displayed prominently, but some insect-proof screens were open during the inspection. Water stagnation was also observed on the floor at some locations.
An expired laboratory reagent, Resercinol, with an expiry date of June 2026, was found in the laboratory. Some unlabelled food flavours were also found in the laboratory.
Officials lifted Act Samples of paneer and curd and surveillance samples of raw milk from the unit.
