Synopsis: TG SAFE said the FSSAI licences of Manikanta’s Live Space Luxury Women’s Hostel, Sri Balaji Luxury Men’s PG Hostel, Hotel Sitara Grand, Bake Max Foods Pvt Ltd (Brown Bear Manufacturing Unit) and Mandi King Arabian Restaurant have been suspended.
The Telangana Standards Authority for Food and Essential Drugs (TG SAFE) has suspended the FSSAI licences of five food establishments in Hyderabad’s Kukatpally area and directed them to immediately stop business operations following a special food safety inspection drive.
Ten enforcement teams comprising Food Safety Officers and police personnel inspected 20 food establishments, including restaurants, bakeries, sweet shops, hostels and messes, in the Kukatpally area.
According to TG SAFE, the inspections uncovered multiple food safety violations, including spoiled and contaminated food, pest infestations, unhygienic premises, expired food products and improper storage and refrigeration practices.
TG SAFE said the FSSAI licences of Manikanta’s Live Space Luxury Women’s Hostel, Sri Balaji Luxury Men’s PG Hostel, Hotel Sitara Grand, Bake Max Foods Pvt Ltd (Brown Bear Manufacturing Unit) and Mandi King Arabian Restaurant have been suspended.
The establishments have been instructed to stop business operations immediately “in the interest of public health”, the TG SAFE Commissioner said in the press note dated September 6.
At Manikanta’s Live Space Luxury Women’s Hostel, officials reported heavy cockroach infestation, pest-infested food articles and groundnuts with fungal contamination.
Sri Balaji Luxury Men’s PG Hostel was found to have heavy cockroach infestation, expired and pest-infested food articles, rodent infestation, unhygienic premises and inadequate record keeping.
At Hotel Sitara Grand, officials reported cockroach and rodent infestation, expired food articles, pest-infested food and improper maintenance of refrigerators.
Bake Max Foods Pvt Ltd, which operates the Brown Bear manufacturing unit, was found to have cockroach and housefly infestation, expired food articles, spoiled vegetables and unhygienic cold storage conditions.
At Mandi King Arabian Restaurant, officials found improperly maintained refrigerators, inadequate segregation of vegetarian and non-vegetarian food, lack of proper segregation of raw and semi-prepared foods, spoiled vegetables and unhygienic premises.
During the drive, officials collected 20 food samples on suspicion of adulteration for further examination.
TG SAFE officials also discarded spoiled and rotten vegetables and raw materials, including groundnuts, flour and red chillies, after finding them infested with insects and pests.
The authority said the action was taken after enforcement teams observed violations relating to food storage, hygiene and pest control.
In a separate action, GVK New Luxury PG Men’s Hostel was closed after officials found that it was operating without an FSSAI licence or registration.
The hostel was also found to be violating food safety norms, prompting the enforcement teams to shut the establishment.
TG SAFE said improvement notices would be issued to Gummadi Foods, KS Bakers, Lakshmi Vengamamba Hostel, Padmavathi Delux Mess, Mehfil Restaurant and Sree Harsha Delux Mess.
The establishments will be reinspected to determine whether the identified lapses have been rectified. Further action will be taken depending on their compliance with food safety norms.
Show-cause notices will also be issued to Paradise Food Court, Chaitanya Food Court, Bhulakshmi Mess and Godavari Mithai. TG SAFE said further proceedings would be initiated for imposing penalties based on the violations recorded during the inspections.
The enforcement drive is part of TG SAFE’s special drives to check food safety compliance at establishments across Telangana.
