BJP MLA T Raja Singh on Friday, 10 February, abandoned his existing bulletproof vehicle near Pragathi Bhavan —the official residence of Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao — in Begumpet and registered his protest against the state government for failing to provide him a new bulletproof vehicle.

This is not the first time the Goshamahal legislator has made this demand. On 17 November, he wrote a letter to Telangana’s Intelligence Department demanding a change in the bulletproof vehicle allotted to him.

Car troubles

He claimed that the vehicle was frequently experiencing mechanical snags — over half-a-dozen times so far. Speaking to reporters after abandoning the vehicle, Singh charged that the state government was not providing a new bulletproof vehicle due to fear of AIMIM.

Stating that both the BRS and AIMIM were the same, Singh said that a conspiracy was being hatched to eliminate him by not providing him a proper vehicle. He added that he would use his own vehicle from now on.

The police later towed the vehicle away from the premises.

On Thursday, Singh expressed displeasure over the negligent attitude of the Intelligence Security Wing (ISW) for failing to provide a proper vehicle to him.

It is the ISW that provides bulletproof vehicles to ministers, MLAs, and MLCs after assessing threat perception.

Yesterday, the 2010-model, bulletproofed Scorpio’s front left wheel came off, leaving Singh and his security personnel shell-shocked. The incident occurred when Singh was about to reach his house in Dhoolpet after attending the ongoing Assembly budget session.

Singh emerged from the incident unhurt as the driver was driving slowly.

Singh said that despite bringing the matter to the notice of concerned officials, the ISW failed to provide a new bulletproof vehicle.

He alleged that the same vehicle has stalled several times when being used by the MLA to visit districts to meet the party cadre.

In these instances, the party leaders had to arrange for another vehicle to take him to meet the cadre and then return home safely, he recounted.

Threats and sharp tongues

The BJP leaders have also demanded that the state government provide a new bulletproof vehicle to Singh, as he his speeches have been eliciting threats from various people.

They charged that the state government would be held responsible if anything happens to Singh because of its careless attitude.

Singh has received several threatening messages from different people, especially a few groups from abroad who have warned him to restrain himself from making such speeches.

But Singh has not obliged and continues his speeches that draw the attention of people across the country, noted BJP leaders.

They said that this is the main reason leaders from other states invite him to deliver a speech at meetings organised in their respective states.

A few weeks ago, Singh delivered a speech in a meeting in Maharashtra, which was attended by thousands.
