BJP suspended MLA T Raja Singh issued another notice for hate speech in Mumbai rally.

A second show-cause notice in a week was issued to the suspended Telangana BJP leader T Raja Singh on the evening of Monday, 30 January, for delivering a provocative speech at a gathering in Mumbai on Sunday.

The first notice was issued to Singh, who represents the Goshamahal constituency in the Telangana Assembly, on Sunday for the remarks he made last year against a minority religion.

The rally, organised by Mumbai-based right-wing outfit Sakal Hindu Samaj, witnessed hundreds participating from Shivaji Park to Kamgar Maidan in Prabhadevi, where Raja Singh addressed a meeting.

Calls were given for a law against “love and land jihad”, religious conversion, and “population control”.

Demands also included a ban on the term “halal” on products, preparation for “war”, and a plan of economic and social boycott of Muslims.

Both the Mangalhat police and Singh’s lawyer Karuna Sagar confirmed to South First that the show-cause notice had been issued.

“He has been asked to submit his reply to the notice in two days. Action will be taken after his reply,” Mangalhat SHO N Ravi told South First.

‘No business with Muslim traders’

As per reports, Singh said if love and land Jihad were not stopped, a chingari (spark) that was lit there would turn into a jwalamukhi (volcano).

Demanding that the government draft a law in this regard, he alleged that there was a conspiracy to trap Hindu girls and convert them.

Slogans of “Jai Shri Ram” and “Bharat Mata Ki Jai” were raised continuously, while references were made to the Shraddha Walkar case.

“After the Students’ Islamic Movement of India (SIMI) was banned in Kerala, it started the project of love jihad. They are getting foreign funding for this,” claimed Singh.

He also appealed to people present there to ensure that no business was done with Muslim traders.

“Women, learn self-defence and ensure that the gym instructor is not a Muslim,” he said.

Meanwhile, Singh was the first legislator from the Telugu-speaking states of Telangana and Andhra Pradesh against whom the Preventive Detention (PD) Act — for habitual offenders — was invoked.

‘Boycott products with halal tags’

Singh also urged Hindus to check if their Ola, Uber, and Rapido driver was Muslim or a tilakdhari (the wearer of a mark on the forehead, signifying one is Hindu).

“Whether a commodity is of ₹1 or ₹1 lakh, buy it from a Hindu. If the word halal is mentioned in any product, we demand that it not be purchased. Even Ramdev should remove the word from the products he sells,” he said.

“Why should we have rules that are meant for Islamic countries? Land is being taken away in the name of Waqf. Why do we require that law?” asked Singh.

While lauding 17th-century Maratha ruler Shivaji, his son Sambhaji, and Shiv Sen founder Bal Thackeray, he said: “Sambhaji endured immense torture at the hands of Aurangzeb, but he did not convert. Instead of a doctor, women should look to giving birth to a Shivaji. These are times of strife and war. If the government does not make a law, we will make one.”

Members from Hindu right-wing groups Vishwa Hindu Parishad, Bajrang Dal, Hindu Janajagruti Samiti and others were also present.

101 criminal cases against Singh

This is not the first time Singh has brewed controversy.

On 25 August last year, he was arrested by the police in Hyderabad for inducing hatred and allegedly making derogatory remarks against Prophet Muhammad.

After more than two months in prison, Singh was granted conditional bail by the Telangana High Court on 9 November, which prohibited him from holding rallies, delivering provocative speeches against any religion or speaking to the media.

“He has been also told to not post anything on social media for three months,” his lawyer Neelam Bhargav told South First.

He was also arrested on 9 August after he threatened violence against standup comedian Munawar Faruqui, who performed in Hyderabad later that month.

Meanwhile, as per reports, a total of 101 criminal cases have been registered against Singh since 2004.
