Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao on Tuesday, 7 November, said anarchy and brokers would come back in the state if the Congress was voted to power in the upcoming Assembly elections.

Addressing a massive crowd at a public meeting organised in Peddapalli in the Karimnagar district, he requested the people to see the change before and after the formation of Telangana.

There was anarchy and brokers before the state was formed, he said, and they used to dominate the government offices and fleece people to get their work done.

“There were power cuts and water woes in the state. The people — especially farmers — used to face untold problems because of the collection of water cess and the non-availability of power supply,” said the BRS chief.

“However, after the formation of Telangana, the BRS government decided to come to the rescue of farmers and accordingly planned to stabilise agriculture,” he said.

On welfare schemes

KCR claimed that the Telangana government ensured 24-hour power supply to the agriculture sector, apart from providing the Rythu Bandhu scheme to enable farmers to invest in their farmlands.

In yet another step aimed at benefiting farmers, the state government started purchasing paddy from farmers, he added.

“The pro-farmers measures taken by the state government helped Telangana become the number two state in the country in paddy production. Telangana has produced as many as 3 crore tonnes of paddy this time,” Chandrashekar Rao said.

Congress MP Rahul Gandhi and Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) president A Revanth Reddy were repeatedly saying the party would dump the Dharani portal, a one-stop destination for carrying out agricultural land registration transactions, into the Bay of Bengal, he said.

“The two Congress leaders were saying that Rythu Bandhu was a waste. Is Rythu Bandhu a waste? Should it continue?” Chandrashekhar Rao asked.

Government support was required for farmers and it was a phenomenon followed across the globe, he said.

Hike in Rythu Bandhu funds

“From March onwards, the farmers will get ₹12,000 under the Rythu Bandhu scheme. And later, it will reach ₹16,000,” he said.

He also highlighted the failures of the Congress government in the last 50 years in the Telangana region of the erstwhile state of Andhra Pradesh.

KCR said Telangana was an independent state till 1956, and it was the Congress that forcibly merged it with Andhra Pradesh. That was when Telangana started facing problems, he said.

In fact, the Congress was responsible for all problems in the state, he said, adding that after Telangana was formed, there was no curfew and peace continued to prevail in the state.

At another public meeting in Manthani, KCR asked Rahul Gandhi why his party failed to ensure 24-hour free power supply in Congress-ruled states.

Criticising Revanth Reddy’s remarks that a three-hour power supply was sufficient for farmers, he said the national party that ruled the country for more than 50 years completely neglected the development and welfare of the country.

At the public meeting in Chennur, Chandrashekar Rao said the Union government was attempting to privatise Singareni Collieries Company Limited (SCCL) in the state.

He said it was the Congress that made SCCL into a loss-making unit and after the BRS came to power, the SCCL became a profit-making unit and the company earned ₹2,184 crore in profit.

As many as ₹1,000 crore was distributed as a bonus to SCCL employees on the occasion of Dasara and Diwali, he said.
