The ad campaign uses satire to highlight KCR's unfulfilled 2018 poll promises, and warms people against falling for it this time.
Revving up its campaign in Telangana, the Congress launched an advertising campaign targeting — and mocking — the ruling BRS and its top leaders on Tuesday, 7 November.
High on satire and mockery, the party’s ads, run as skits, highlight the purported unfulfilled 2018 poll promises of Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao, emphasising that people would no longer believe their “lies” and would vote against them this time.
The campaign comes a day after the grand old party announced that its state unit chief, A Revanth Reddy, would contest from Kamareddy against Chief Minister KCR.
Two ads released on Tuesday quickly went viral. They are similar to the advertisement series that captured public attention during the Karnataka Assembly elections this May on “40 percent commission” allegations against the previous BJP government.
However, the BRS has dubbed the campaign as “a theatrical trick”.
The short video clips show artists imitating K Chandrashekar Rao seeking a mandate for the third time. The skits end with the tyre of a pink car being punctured after people refuse to “fall” for unkept promises again. Car is the election symbol of the BRS and pink is the colour of the party’s flag.
Vice-president of Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) Kiran Kumar Chamala told South First,” KCR has deceived the public by promising to create a Bangaru Telangana (Golden Telangana), but he failed to deliver, and now he is attempting to deceive the people for a third time. Therefore, the campaign aims to make the voters aware of how he has been deceiving the public throughout the years.”

“Telangana was created to provide employment, foster prosperous agriculture, and develop infrastructure. These fundamental goals have been neglected by KCR, apart from unfulfilled promises such as providing double-bedroom houses and government jobs,” he added.
“When I observe the dismal state of employment in the state, it is evident that 30 lakh youth in the state are affected, with not a single recruitment having taken place so far under the Telangana State Public Service Commission (TSPSC). Most of the youth are working as drivers for online apps,” Chamala said.
Speaking to South First, BRS Spokesperson Putta Vishnuvardhan Reddy stated, “The Telangana people have lost trust in the Congress party. The people are aware of what is happening in Karnataka. The Congress’ promises are failing to be implemented. Since they have lost trust, they are trying to entertain the people with their theatrical tricks.”
“Nearly 95 percent of the 2018 poll promises have been implemented by the BRS government led by KCR. There is no truth in the Congress claim that promises were not implemented. These theatrical tricks won’t translate into votes. People can recognise the difference between the track records of both parties,” he added.
