Union Home Minister Amit Shah is expected to deliver a fiery speech during “Telangana Liberation Day” celebrations, much like the one he did last year.

The Union government is organising the celebrations at the Parade Ground in Secunderabad on 17 September.

Even though there is no official confirmation regarding the arrival of Shah, party sources told South First that he might attend as the chief guest and launch a scathing attack on the ruling BRS government, which “failed” to organise the celebrations ever since the formation of Telangana in 2014.

Blames BRS for taking cue

The BJP also alleged that the state government organised the celebrations last year only after the Union government announced that it would officially hold the event.

The state unit of the BJP wants to utilise liberation day celebrations as a platform to criticise the BRS, stating that the steering of its car, the election symbol of BRS, is in the hands of the AIMIM.

The BJP said without the consent of AIMIM, the BRS government would not take any decision to organise the celebrations officially this year.

Interacting with media persons a few days ago, Union Tourism Minister and Telangana BJP state president G Kishan Reddy confirmed that the Union government would organise the celebration.

While the BJP celebrates the event as “Telangana Liberation Day”, a name propagated by the RSS since the late 1970s — suggesting liberation from Muslim rule. For most others, it has been “integration” or “merger” day.

Kishan Reddy consoles home guard’s family

Meanwhile, on Thursday, 7 September, Kishan Reddy consoled the family members of home guard Ravinder, who set himself ablaze by pouring petrol, protesting the delay in getting his salary at Apollo Hospital near DRDO in Kanchanbagh.

The condition of the home guard is serious. He has suffered more than 50 percent burns.

Speaking to media persons, he said the state government was humiliating home guards and rendering injustice to them.

He demanded that the state government treat home guards on a par with the government employees and that a separate allowance must be given to them when their services were utilised for bandobast duties.

Kishan Reddy said Chief Minister K Chandrashekar had promised in the Assembly that the services of home guards would be regularised but nothing concrete was done.

Referring to the lathi-charge on the students of Kakatiya University in Warangal, BJP MLA Eatala Rajender said the entire nation watched the brutality of the police towards the students who were protesting the PhD irregularities in the university.

He added that the full credit for the incident would go to the chief minister.
