IMD has placed Pathanamthitta, Kottayam and Idukki districts on red alert and forecast heavy rainfall on 20 and 21 May. With heavy rains continuing to lash several parts of Kerala on Monday, 20 May, Kerala government opened emergency operation centres in all district collectorates and taluk offices and stocked medical supplies in view of the possibility of landslides and mudslides.
