The searches were conducted at the residences, offices and properties of relatives of the accused officers in Bengaluru City, Bengaluru South, Chitradurga, Kalaburagi, Shivamogga, Raichuru and Tumakuru districts.
Synopsis: The Karnataka Lokayukta Police on Wednesday, 8 July, conducted simultaneous searches at more than 53 locations across the State in connection with disproportionate assets cases against 10 government officers, including officials from the PWD, KRIDL, GESCOM, KBJNL, the Agriculture Department and the Minor Irrigation Department, uncovering assets worth nearly ₹49.83 crore. The searches revealed large holdings of land, houses, commercial properties, cash, jewellery, vehicles and bank deposits.
The Karnataka Lokayukta Police on Wednesday, 8 July, conducted simultaneous searches at more than 53 locations across the State in connection with disproportionate assets cases registered against 10 government officers, uncovering assets worth nearly ₹49.83 crore.
The searches were conducted at the residences, offices and properties of relatives of the accused officers in Bengaluru City, Bengaluru South, Chitradurga, Kalaburagi, Shivamogga, Raichuru and Tumakuru districts.
They revealed immovable assets valued at ₹37.95 crore and movable assets worth ₹11.88 crore, including cash, gold and silver ornaments, vehicles, bank deposits and other valuables.
The officers against whom the cases have been registered include engineers, forest officers, an Agriculture Department administrator, a panchayat development officer and officials from the Public Works Department (PWD), Karnataka Rural Infrastructure Development Limited (KRIDL), Gulbarga Electricity Supply Company (GESCOM), Karnataka Neeravari Nigam Limited (KBJNL) and the Minor Irrigation Department.
Among the largest recoveries was that of Additional Director (Administration) DR Pushpa, Agricultural Marketing Board, Bengaluru. Her assets included one site, three houses, a commercial building and 20 guntas of agricultural land valued at ₹7.37 crore.
Movable assets worth ₹78.22 lakh, including cash, gold and silver ornaments and vehicles, were also found. The Lokayukta assessed the alleged disproportionate assets in the case at ₹5.93 crore.
In Bengaluru, searches at four locations in the case against Assistant Engineer M Narendra Kumar, PWD, resulted in the seizure of assets including three houses, four acres of agricultural land, cash, jewellery, vehicles, bank fixed deposits and other valuables.
The immovable assets were valued at ₹5.95 crore and the movable assets at ₹2.56 crore, while the alleged disproportionate assets were estimated at ₹5.75 crore.
At five premises associated with Superintendent Engineer B Praveen Srihari, KRIDL, Bengaluru, the Lokayukta found two sites, two houses and 11 acres of agricultural land valued at ₹4.60 crore, besides movable assets worth ₹1.28 crore. The alleged disproportionate assets in the case were assessed at ₹4.33 crore.
The Lokayukta also searched seven locations in the case against Panchayat Development Officer Thimmaiah of Kumbalaguru Gram Panchayat in Bengaluru South district. The searches yielded two sites, four houses and agricultural land worth ₹2.53 crore, besides movable assets worth ₹1.19 crore. The alleged disproportionate assets were assessed at ₹3.50 crore.
Searches in the case against Executive Engineer Basanagouda Patil, KBJNL, Raichuru, revealed five sites, four houses and 92 acres of agricultural land valued at ₹8.28 crore. Movable assets worth ₹1.15 crore, including cash, jewellery, vehicles and bank savings and fixed deposits, were also recovered. The alleged disproportionate assets in the case were valued at ₹6.11 crore.
In Chitradurga, searches in the case against Range Forest Officer BH Duggappa, Watershed Development Department, uncovered three sites, a house and agricultural land valued at ₹1.51 crore, along with movable assets worth ₹43.51 lakh. The alleged disproportionate assets were pegged at ₹1.95 crore.
Searches at six locations connected to Associate Professor (Agricultural Engineering) M Shankar, Horticulture Department, led to the recovery of one site, two houses, agricultural land and movable assets together valued at over ₹3.27 crore. The Lokayukta estimated the alleged disproportionate assets in the case at ₹1.87 crore.
In Kalaburagi, searches in the case against Assistant Executive Engineer Amruth Rao, GESCOM, revealed three sites, two houses, a flat, two commercial complexes and agricultural land, with immovable assets valued at ₹2.83 crore. Movable assets worth ₹1.14 crore were also found, while the alleged disproportionate assets were valued at ₹2.65 crore.
In Shivamogga, searches at five locations associated with Assistant Conservator of Forest Kiran Angadi, Research Centre, Forest Department, Ankola, uncovered a house, agricultural land and movable assets together valued at nearly ₹1.95 crore. The alleged disproportionate assets were estimated at ₹1.94 crore.
In Tumakuru district, searches in the case against Assistant Engineer N Madhusudan, Minor Irrigation Department, Tiptur Sub-Division, resulted in the recovery of three sites, a house, cash, jewellery and vehicles. The immovable assets were valued at ₹1.62 crore and the movable assets at ₹1.32 crore, while the alleged disproportionate assets were estimated at ₹2.10 crore.
