Light to moderate rainfall may cool down steaming Telangana in the next few days

Thundershowers likely at several places but the IMD Hyderabad noted that high temperature may continue till May end.

IMD predicts light to moderate rainfall in Telangana over next few days

This could be music for Telangana, now sweltering under the scorching sun.

The Hyderabad Centre of India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Saturday, 20 May, predicted light to moderate rainfall for the next 48 hours in some districts.

Telangana has been experiencing one of the hottest summers with the mercury rising to 46.4°C at some places.

“A trough of discontinuity running from east Madhya Pradesh to interior Karnataka is passing over Telangana. This is the reason for rainfall,” K Nagaratna, the head scientist at the Weather Forecasting Department of IMD-Hyderabad, told South First.

Meanwhile, the state capital, Hyderabad, is also likely to receive light to moderate rainfall along with thundershowers until Monday, 22 May. The maximum temperature is likely to be 40°C, and the minimum, 25°C.

Districts to receive rainfall

Jayashankar Bhupalapally, Mulugu, Bhadradri Kothagudem, Khammam, Nalgonda, Suryapet, Janagaon,  Siddipet, Yadadri Bhuvangiri, Rangareddy, Mahabubnagar, Nagarkurnool, Wanaparthi, Narayanpet, and Jogulamba Gadwal, are likely to receive rainfall on Saturday and Sunday.

Medchal-Malkajigiri may get rain on Saturday, the IMD said.

Thunderstorms are likely at places in Karimnagar, Peddapally, Mahabubabad, Warangal, and Hanamkonda districts.

However, on Sunday, 21 May, Janagaon, Siddipet, Yadadri Bhuvangiri, Rangareddy, and Medchal-Malkajigiri may experience thunderstorms.

As per the Telangana State Development Planning Society (TSDPS)’s forecast, the maximum temperatures on these days are expected to be between 39°C and 45°C, while the minimum temperatures could be in the range of 26°C to 29°C.

Scorching heat envelops Telangana 

As the mercury continues to soar in various parts of South India, the scorching heat has enveloped Telangana also.

The TSDPS reported that Julurpad in the Bhadradri Kothagudem district recorded the highest maximum temperature of 46.4°C.

Nalgonda recorded the highest temperature (45.9°C) on 19 May followed by Karimnagar and Suryapet.

On 17 May, several locations across the state experienced high temperatures, with many areas reaching 45°C.

Julurpad, Garimellapadu, and Khanapur PS in Khammam recorded 45.4°C; Bayyaram in Mahabubabad recorded 45.4°C; and Mamillagudem in Suryapet recorded 45.3°C.

In Hyderabad, Khairatabad registered the highest maximum temperature of 41.6°C.

Serilingampally, Kukatpally, Quthbullapur, Secunderabad, and Musheerabad also recorded temperatures exceeding 40°C.

Meanwhile, the IMD noted that high temperatures — above 41°C — are likely to continue in Telangana till May end.
