KCR in Solapur

In a major show of strength beyond his state, Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao, on Monday, 26 June, left for a two-day visit to Maharashtra — this time by road, and in a convoy of hundreds of vehicles, including two buses.

Accompanied by ministers, MPs, MLAs, MLCs, and other BRS leaders, the chief minister left Pragati Bhavan in Hyderabad as though he was on an expedition. He is expected to reach south Maharashtra city of Solapur by evening and would stay there for the night.

To address public meeting in Pandharpur

He is expected to resume his journey to the pilgrimage town of Pandharpur at about 8 am on Tuesday, where he and his entourage will offer special prayers at the temple of Vithobha Rukmini.

Later, he will address a public meeting in the town. On the occasion, he will also admit Maharashtra leader Bhagirath Balke into the BRS.

KCR will then leave for Thulja Bhavani temple in the Dharashiv district to offer special poojas to the presiding deity. After worshipping the deity, he will return to Hyderabad.

The BRS leaders recall a similar voyage of cars to Delhi by KCR on 27 March, 2003, drawing the attention of the people across India.

Ever since the formation of the BRS in October last year, KCR has set his eyes on Maharashtra and made several visits to the state to win the hearts of the people there.

Using Maharashtra as a launchpad

He showcased the Telangana model of development and maintained that it was very much suited for the entire India including Maharashtra.

He even opened a BRS office in Nagpur on 15 June and addressed a public meeting. The contents of his news conference after that were interpreted as indicative of the BRS cosying up to the BJP.

KCR who was a staunch critic of the BJP suddenly rested his guns and confined his attack only on the Congress.

The indications that came out of the Nagpur meeting were that he was using Maharashtra as the launchpad to rise to the national level.

Though not a great achievement, the BRS, however, considers a good omen the election of its candidate as sarpanch unanimously for Savkheda in Gangapur district recently.
