‘Not just a protest’: CM Satheesan to join Opposition’s November 1 Chalo Dilli march
Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi had earlier announced a march by Opposition parties from the Minto Road–Connaught Place junction to Ramlila Maidan in New Delhi on November 1.
Keralam Chief Minister VD Satheesan will take part in a mass protest at Ramlila Maidan in New Delhi on Sunday, November 1, calling for the protection of democracy, the Constitution and citizens’ voting rights.
Announcing his participation, Satheesan said he would join lakhs of people in raising their voices against what he described as threats to democratic values.
“This is not just a protest. It is a firm declaration that we will not remain silent when democracy is under threat,” he said in a message, urging people to join the march to Delhi.
Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi had earlier announced a march by Opposition parties from the Minto Road–Connaught Place junction to Ramlila Maidan in New Delhi on November 1.
The march, titled ‘Chalo Dilli’, will culminate in an INDIA bloc rally demanding action against alleged electoral malpractice through the Special Intensive Revision (#SIR) of electoral rolls.
The Opposition will also press for the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar, accusing the Election Commission of failing to safeguard the integrity of the #electoral process.
CJP, Neha Bora extend support
The Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) had also extended its support to the rally.
“Gyanu must go. The Cockroach Janta Party extends its support to the INDIA Bloc’s November 1 rally,” CJP founder Abhijeet Dipke had posted, along with a statement.
The All India Students’ Association (AISA)’s Neha Bora had also extended her support to the march with a “See you there” message.
“Our demand to seek Gyanesh Kumar’s resignation, impose a complete halt on the SIR exercise, and withdraw the 2023 law will culminate in a movement at Ramlila Maidan on November 1,” the youth leader had posted.
Rahul Gandhi had on Friday alleged that Home Minister Amit Shah was trying to stop people from reaching Delhi ahead of the protest, while stressing that such attempts would not deter the participants.
“The Home Minister is doing his best to stop people from coming to Delhi, trying to ensure that our party members, thousands of people, common people who want to come from UP, Haryana, Punjab, Telangana are being stopped. Now you watch what happens at Ramlila Maidan. You watch how many people come and how many they are able to stop. Then you will understand what is happening in this country,” Rahul said.
The Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha said there was “huge anger and emotional pain” among the public over the deletion of over 13 crore voters through the Election Commission of India’s Special Intensive Revision (SIR) exercise. Rahul alleged that millions of people were being “disenfranchised” to benefit businessmen Gautam Adani and Mukesh Ambani, PM Modi and Amit Shah.
