A total of 290 candidates filed their nominations to contest the 26 April Lok Sabha elections from Kerala
According to the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) Kerala, 499 nominations were filed, including multiple nominations by some candidates, were filed in the 20 constituencies in the state.
On Thursday, 4 April, the last day of filing, 252 nominations were received by the CEO.
Thiruvananthapuram constituency has the highest number of candidates in the state with 22 and Alathur has the least, with eight candidates. The number of candidates who filed nominations for the elections in each constituency are:
The scrutiny of the applications will take place on Friday. Candidates can withdraw their nominations till 8 April.
Scrutiny of nominations will take place on 5 April. The results of the elections will be declared on 4 June.
The CEO also said that the state witnessed seizures worth ₹33.31 crore, including drugs worth ₹7.13 crore, following the announcement of the election schedule on 16 March.
Unaccounted items including cash, liquor, drugs, valuable metals including gold and other items intended for free supply were seized by the Election Commission of India.
Cash worth ₹6.67 crore, 28,867 litres of liquor worth ₹1 crore, 2,33,723 grams of drugs worth ₹6.13 crores, 14.91 crore worth precious metal carried without documents and freebies worth ₹4.58 crore were seized by various agencies during the inspections.
The CEO also said that due to the existence of the Model Code of Conduct of the election, strict inspection will continue in the coming days under the leadership of various agencies in the state.
