Synopsis:The samples of the woman with severe vomiting and high blood sugar levels were sent for testing.
A woman from Valavoor near Pala in Kottayam district has been admitted to the isolation ward at the Kottayam Government Medical College Hospital after a suspected Ebola infection following her return from South Sudan.
The 52-year-old reportedly arrived in Kerala via Uganda and sought treatment at a private hospital in Pala after developing a fever.
Following concerns over her recent travel history, health authorities intervened and shifted her to Kottayam Government Medical College Hospital for further evaluation.
Hospital authorities said the patient is currently under observation in a special isolation ward and is being monitored by a dedicated medical team.
Officials noted that she did not exhibit most of the symptoms associated typically with Ebola, apart from a mild fever.
However, they indicated that she had experienced severe vomiting and elevated blood sugar levels after returning from the trip.
Samples have been collected and sent to a laboratory in Thiruvananthapuram for testing.
Health officials said a definitive confirmation can only be made after the test results are received.
A medical board will be convened to determine further treatment and management based on the findings.
Authorities have urged the public not to panic, emphasising that no significant Ebola-related symptoms have been observed so far and that all necessary precautionary measures are in place.
Health minister says no cause for concern
Kerala’s health minister K Muraleedharan on Thursday said there is no need for concern and that the woman has been kept under observation purely as a precautionary measure.
“At present, there is no reason to be afraid. However, we do not want to take even one per cent risk, which is why she has been admitted to an isolation ward and is under close monitoring,” he said.
According to hospital authorities, the 52-year-old is stable.
