South India students top in 2023 CBSE Class 10 and 12 board result, Trivandrum tops

Students from South Indian states excelled in Class 10 and 12 exams of the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE), with the Trivandrum region leading others.

Announcing the results on Friday, 12 May, the CBSE reported a pass percentage of 93.12 percent for Class 10 and 87.3 for Class 12.

Meanwhile, in a bid to curb unhealthy competition among students, the CBSE decided not to award first, second, and third divisions this year. The students will be awarded a pass certificate or a certificate of excellence.

For the straight second consecutive year, students in the Trivandrum region topped the CBSE  Class 12 exam with an impressive pass percentage of 99.91 percent.

Trivandrum was followed by Bengaluru (98.64 percent) and Chennai (97.40 percent) regions.

Meanwhile, the 2023 CBSE Class 12 results dipped 5.38 percent from that of 2022. The pass percentage was 92.71 percent the previous year. However, the performance improved in comparison to the pre-pandemic years: 83.40 percent in 2019

Continuing the trend of outperforming boys, girls this year, too, led by a margin of 6.01 percent. The girl’s overall pass percentage is 90.68.

Trivandrum leads CBSE Class 10 results

Imitating their seniors, Class 10 students, too, propelled the Trivandrum region to the top, posting a pass percentage of — coincidentally — 99.91 percent.

Bengaluru (99.18 percent), Chennai (99.14 percent), Ajmer (97.27 percent), and Pune 96.92 (percent) claimed the second to fourth slots.

However, the overall passing percentage dipped by 1.28 percent — from 94.40 percent in 2022 to 93.12 percent in 2023.

The slight slide did not affect the girls, who outsmarted boys by 1.98 percent to record an overall pass percentage of 94.25 percent. In comparison, boys secured 92.27 percent and transgenders secured 90 percent.

The Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya schools (JNVS) secured a pass percentage of 99.14 percent followed by Kendra Vidyalaya (KV) schools with 98 percent.

Independent schools were in third position with 95.27 percent followed by the Central Tibetan School Administration (CTSA) with 93.86 percent pass percentage. Government-aided schools posted an 81.57 percent win and government schools, 80.38 percent.

Impressive performance

Of the 7,286 Class 10 students registered under Children With Special Needs (CWSN), 7,154 appeared for the exams and 6,627 cleared it with a pass percentage of 92.63 percent.

Among them, 58 children scored more than 95 percent marks and another 278 students went past the 90 percent mark.

The board will allow Class 10 students to improve their performances in two subjects in the supplementary exams scheduled for July. The re-evaluation facility will open on 16 May.

The board will provide Digital Academic Documents — marksheets-cum-certificates, migration certificates, and skill certificates (wherever applicable) through its digital academic repository, Parinam Manjusha.

Meanwhile, a total of 2.18 lakh students registered for the Class 10 board exams this year. Of them, 2.16 lakh students appeared and 2.01 lakh passed the exams.

The CBSE Class 10 board exams were held between 14 February and 21 March.

Students can access their results on the official website of the CBSE (www.cbse.nic.in) using their roll numbers and date of birth. In case of any discrepancy, students are advised to contact their respective schools.
