Synopsis: The selection of the 13 MLAs who were sworn in as ministers alongside Karnataka Chief Minister DK Shivakumar on Wednesday is said to have been aimed at ensuring representation across a range of caste and community groups, given that Shivakumar belongs to the dominant Vokkaliga community. All but Yathindra Siddaramaiah served in the previous Siddaramaiah cabinet.

Alongside Karnataka’s newly sworn-in Chief Minister, DK Shivakumar, 13 members of the state Legislative Assembly were also sworn in as ministers at the Glass House on the sprawling Lok Bhavan premises on Wednesday evening.

Of the 13 ministers, all but Yathindra Siddaramaiah served in the previous Siddaramaiah cabinet.

The selection is said to be aimed at ensuring representation across a range of caste and community groups, given that Shivakumar belongs to the dominant Vokkaliga community.

Here is a detailed look at the ministers’ declared assets, criminal cases, if any, and educational qualifications.

G Parameshwara

One of the foremost Dalit leaders in the Congress, Parameshwara (74) represents the Koratagere (SC) constituency in Tumakuru district. He previously served as Home Minister in the Siddaramaiah cabinet.

He holds a PhD from the Waite Agricultural Research Institute at the University of Adelaide, Australia, which he completed in 1984.

In his election affidavit, Dr Parameshwara declared three pending criminal cases. The cases are registered at Sathanur Police Station in Kanakapura taluk and at Shivajinagar and Siddapura police stations in Bengaluru.

Dr Parameshwara has declared assets worth ₹21.27 crore and liabilities of ₹15.39 crore.

KJ George

A long-time ally of former Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, George (76) represents the Sarvagnanagar constituency in Bengaluru. He served as Energy Minister until 29 May.

He studied up to the pre-university level, completing his Intermediate course at Government Junior College, Ponampet, in 1966–67. He attended Mysore University in 1969–70 but did not complete a Bachelor of Arts degree.

In his election affidavit, George declared that no criminal cases are pending against him.

George has declared assets worth ₹80.37 crore and liabilities of ₹48.08 crore.

MB Patil

A prominent leader of the Lingayat community, Patil (61) represents the Babaleshwar constituency in Vijayapura district. He previously served as Minister for Large and Medium Industries and Infrastructure Development.

He holds a Bachelor of Engineering degree in Civil Engineering from BLDE Institute’s VP Dr PG Halakatti College of Engineering and Technology, Vijayapura, affiliated with Karnataka University, Dharwad. He completed the course in 1990.

In his election affidavit, Patil declared five pending criminal cases. The cases are registered at Siddapura and High Grounds police stations in Bengaluru, Ijoor and Ramanagara police stations in Ramanagara district, and Sathanur Police Station in Kanakapura.

Patil has declared assets worth ₹141.31 crore and liabilities of ₹25.59 crore.

Satish Jarkiholi

Born into the influential Jarkiholi family in north-western Karnataka, Satish Jarkiholi (63) represents the Yemkanmardi (ST) constituency in Belagavi district. He previously served as Public Works Minister.

He completed his Pre-University Course at JSS Arts, Science and Commerce College, Gokak, in 1981.

In his election affidavit, Jarkiholi declared two pending criminal cases. The cases are registered at Ijoor Police Station in Ramanagara district and Sathanur Police Station in Kanakapura taluk.

Jarkiholi has declared assets worth ₹175.29 crore and liabilities of ₹12.29 crore.

Krishna Byre Gowda

The son of veteran MLA and cabinet minister C Byre Gowda, Krishna Byre Gowda (53) represents the Byatarayanapura constituency in Bengaluru Urban district. He previously served as Revenue Minister in the Siddaramaiah cabinet.

He holds a Master of Arts degree in International Affairs from American University, Washington, DC, which he completed in 1999. He also holds a Bachelor of Business Management degree from Christ College, Bengaluru, obtained in 1994.

In his election affidavit, Gowda declared two pending criminal cases. The cases are registered at Sathanur Police Station in Kanakapura taluk and Ramanagara Rural Police Station.

Gowda has declared assets worth ₹16.70 crore and liabilities of ₹95.22 lakh.

UT Khader

A four-time MLA, Khader (56) represents the Mangaluru constituency in Dakshina Kannada district. He previously served as the 17th Speaker of the Karnataka Legislative Assembly during the Siddaramaiah government until 24 May.

He holds a Bachelor of Laws (LLB) degree from SDM Law College, Mangaluru, affiliated with Mangalore University, which he completed in 2003.

In his election affidavit, Khader declared three pending criminal cases. The cases are registered through a private complaint in Bengaluru, at Ijoor Police Station in Ramanagara district, and at Sathanur Police Station in Kanakapura taluk.

Khader has declared assets worth ₹6.97 crore and liabilities of ₹69.80 lakh.

Ramalinga Reddy

One of the senior-most leaders of the Karnataka Congress, Reddy (72) represents the BTM Layout constituency in Bengaluru. He previously served as Transport Minister in the Siddaramaiah cabinet.

He holds a Bachelor of Science degree from Government Science College, Bangalore University, which he completed in 1975.

In his election affidavit, Reddy declared four pending criminal cases. The cases are registered at Sathanur Police Station in Kanakapura taluk, Halasuru Gate Police Station in Bengaluru, Ijoor Police Station in Ramanagara district, and Siddapura Police Station in Bengaluru.

Reddy has declared assets worth ₹110.67 crore and liabilities of ₹37.99 crore.

Priyank Kharge

One of Congress’s younger and more prominent faces, Priyank Kharge (47) is the son of AICC President Mallikarjun Kharge and represents the Chittapur (SC) constituency in Kalaburagi district. He previously served as Minister for Rural Development, Panchayati Raj and IT & BT in the Siddaramaiah cabinet.

He completed his I PUC from MES College, Malleswaram, in 1996 and obtained a certification in Computer Arts and Animation in 1999.

In his election affidavit, Kharge declared nine pending criminal cases. The cases are registered in Bengaluru at Vyalikaval, Siddapura and High Grounds police stations, and in Ramanagara district at Ramanagara Rural, Ijoor, Kanakapura and Sathanur police stations.

Kharge has declared assets worth ₹16.83 crore and liabilities of ₹28.75 lakh.

Yathindra Siddaramaiah

The younger son of former Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, Yathindra Siddaramaiah (45) is a member of the Karnataka Legislative Council. He is a first-time member of the cabinet.

He holds an MD degree in Pathology from Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College, Belagavi, affiliated with Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences, Bengaluru, which he completed in 2009.

In his election affidavit, Dr Yathindra declared two cases in which cognisance has been taken by the courts. The cases are registered at Sathanur Police Station and Kanakapura Police Station in Ramanagara district.

Dr Yathindra has declared assets worth ₹31.88 crore and liabilities of ₹10.47 crore.

Sharan Prakash Patil

Dr Sharan Prakash Patil (59) represents the Sedam constituency in Kalaburagi district. He previously served as Minister for Medical Education and Skill Development during the second Siddaramaiah government.

He holds an MD degree in Skin and Venereal Diseases from MR Medical College, affiliated with Gulbarga University, which he completed in 1995.

In his election affidavit, Dr Patil declared three pending criminal cases. The cases are registered at Ramanagara Rural Police Station, Kanakapura Police Station and Sulepeth Police Station in Chincholi taluk.

Dr Patil has declared assets worth ₹28.70 crore and liabilities of ₹14.30 crore.

Byrathi Suresh

A close aide of Siddaramaiah, Suresh (53) represents the Hebbal constituency in Bengaluru. He previously served as Minister for Urban Development and Town Planning in the Siddaramaiah cabinet.

He completed his Pre-University Course at National College, Bengaluru, in 1991.

In his election affidavit, Suresh declared two pending criminal cases. The cases are registered at Indiranagar Police Station and Siddapura Police Station in Bengaluru.

Suresh has declared assets worth ₹648.14 crore and liabilities of ₹114.86 crore.

KH Muniyappa

A veteran Congressman, KH Muniyappa (78) has had a long career in both the Lok Sabha and the Karnataka Legislative Assembly. He represents the Devanahalli (SC) constituency in Bengaluru Rural district.

He previously served as Minister for Food and Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs in the Siddaramaiah cabinet.

He holds a law degree from SJRC College, Bangalore University, which he completed in 1986.

In his election affidavit, Muniyappa declared one pending criminal case. The case is registered at Robertsonpet Police Station in Kolar district.

Muniyappa has declared assets worth ₹59.63 crore and liabilities of ₹25.94 crore.

Eshwar Khandre

Eshwar Khandre (64) represents the Bhalki constituency in Bidar district. He previously served as Minister for Forest, Ecology and Environment in the Siddaramaiah cabinet.

He holds a Bachelor of Engineering degree from PDA College of Engineering, Kalaburagi, which he completed in 1985.

In his election affidavit, Khandre declared seven pending criminal cases. The cases are registered at Mehkar and Town police stations in Bhalki, Ijoor and Kanakapura Town police stations in Ramanagara district, Sathanur Police Station in Kanakapura taluk and Upparpet Police Station in Bengaluru.

Khandre has declared assets worth ₹8.74 crore and liabilities of ₹58.02 lakh.
