Officials have been ordered to ensure every notice to electors is delivered by the BLO in person.
The Election Commission (ECI) has issued 43.81 lakh notices as part of the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in Karnataka, out of which only 24.97 lakh have been served to the voters, while 18.84 lakh are still pending delivery, the Chief Electoral Officer said on Friday, September 11.
Out of the 24.97 lakh cases of alleged discrepancies where notices have been served, hearings have been completed in only 7.03 lakh cases, while 17.93 lakh hearings remain pending.
The last hearing is scheduled for October 12, while the deadline for disposal of claims, objections and notice-related cases is October 22.
The CEO on Friday issued a fresh relaxation allowing adult family members of senior citizens, persons with disabilities, sick electors and overseas electors to appear before EROs/AEROs on their behalf and submit documents required for disposal of notices.
The South First has reported on the difficulties faced by elderly voters amid the SIR exercise, including the burden of making repeated trips to hearing centres and the lack of documents linking them to the 2002 rolls.
The CEO also clarified that some voters may not find their names in the same draft-roll part as earlier because of polling-station rationalisation and re-serialisation, which may have changed their Part and Serial Numbers. Voters have been advised to search using their EPIC number.

As of September 10, Karnataka has 4.46 crore electors. A second special voter-registration drive will be held on September 19 and 20.
Meanwhile, the SIR exercise in the state has come under intensified scrutiny after the names of several prominent personalities figured in the discrepancy lists. This include Kannada actor Shivarajkumar, Bharat Ratna scientist CNR Rao, Padma Shri awardee Harekala Hajabba, actor Prakash Raj, Infosys co-founder Nandan Nilekani and Zerodha co-founders Nikhil Kamath and Nithin Kamath.
