BK Hariprasad succeeds DK Shivakumar as Karnataka Congress president
The appointment follows the Congress’s nomination of four candidates, including Hariprasad, for the 18 June biennial elections to fill seven vacancies in the Karnataka Legislative Council.

The All India Congress Committee (AICC) on Wednesday, 3 June, appointed veteran Congress leader BK Hariprasad as president of the Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) with immediate effect, succeeding DK Shivakumar, following the latter’s swearing-in as the Chief Minister of Karnataka.
The appointment follows the Congress’s nomination of four candidates, including Hariprasad, for the 18 June biennial elections to fill seven vacancies in the Karnataka Legislative Council.
A former member of the Rajya Sabha, Hariprasad was also the United Opposition’s candidate for the post of Deputy Chairman of the Rajya Sabha, but lost the contest to NDA’s Harivansh Narayan Singh.
