The Congress on Wednesday, 3 June, announced four candidates for the biennial elections to fill seven seats in the Karnataka Legislative Council.
In a statement, the party said AICC president Mallikarjun Kharge had approved the candidature of B K Hariprasad, Tippannappa Kamaknoor, PV Mohan and Shivanna Mallvalli.
Notably, Hariprasad is also in the running to replace Karnataka Chief Minister DK Shivakumar as president of the Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC).
The elections will fill vacancies arising from the retirement of seven members whose terms are set to end on 30 June.
Polling will be held on 18 June, alongside the biennial elections to the Rajya Sabha.
8 June is the last date for filing nominations. Scrutiny of nominations will take place on 9 June, while candidates may withdraw their nominations until 11 June.
Voting will be held from 9 am to 4 pm at the Vidhana Soudha in Bengaluru, with counting of votes commencing at 5 pm the same day.
With a majority in the Karnataka Legislative Assembly, the Congress is well placed to secure five of the seven vacant Legislative Council seats, potentially giving the ruling party an upper hand in the composition of the House.
