A 42-year-old advocate, Manjunath, was allegedly shot dead by two of his tenants in Pattandur Agrahara, under the Whitefield police station limits in Bengaluru, between 11 am and noon on Sunday, October 18.
According to preliminary police findings, the accused, who reportedly work as delivery personnel for Swiggy, were staying in the victim’s property. An argument allegedly broke out between the landlord and the two tenants over pending rent about an hour before the fatal incident.
The confrontation reportedly escalated when the duo approached Manjunath again, and one of them is said to have shot him in the head before both fled the scene.
Whitefield police told South First that an FIR has been registered under 0691/2026 and an investigation is underway to apprehend the accused. Police and forensic teams visited the crime scene, and efforts are underway to trace the two suspects.
Brother recounts sequence of events
Recounting the incident in a video statement to reporters, the victim’s brother said one of the suspects had visited the property earlier that night before leaving to get the rent money.
“He said, ‘I will bring the money’, and left,” the brother said, describing the suspect’s earlier visit.
According to the brother, the suspect later called Manjunath outside to collect the rent. While Manjunath was counting the money, the second man allegedly took out a firearm and shot him.
“My brother was counting the money when the other man took out a gun and shot him,” the brother said, recounting the events.
The brother said the two men had been tenants at the property for around 1.5 years. He identified one suspect as Ankit Kumar Dubey but said the family did not know the other man’s name.
“We have given all the video footage to the police,” he said.
The family said the property’s usual rental manager, identified as Shiva, had been away in his hometown for three or four days, and Manjunath had come to collect the rent himself. The brother also said the suspects fled on a vehicle before the family could reach the spot.
