Yugi director Hariss had a good team of artists but the direction and writing has clearly let down the audience and his actors.

Thrillers seem to be the genre that most directors and producers are aiming for this year and Yugi follows this trend.

A young woman named Karthika (Anandhi) goes missing and detective Nandakumar (Narain) and two sub-inspectors Rajkumar (Kathir) and Shalini (Athmeeya) begin to investigate this issue.

As they start to find the missing pieces of this puzzle, they come across other instances which create even more confusion. Natty comes in as a local goon and he is also in search of this girl.

What happened to Karthika? Do they find her?

Director Zac Hariss has tried to create an investigative thriller that has all the elements of an Agatha Christie tale, including red herrings and how the less privileged are exploited by the wealthy and powerful.

But the writing in this film lacks the meat to keep the audience engaged and the story is lackluster. The dialogues are very clichéd as well.

Hariss had a good team of artists but the direction and writing have clearly let down the audience and his actors.

This could have been a good film if more attention had been paid to the script. After all, investigative thrillers are a dime a dozen on OTT and television today.

If a thriller has to stand out in theatres, then it has to have some exceptional writing.

Kathir has delivered a good performance in the film though his character only gets more impactful in the second half.

Narain and Natty have delivered what was required of them as have Anandhi and Pavitha Lakshmi and Athmeeya.

Only Anandhi has a better role than the other two actresses who seemed more like props.

The songs are okay in the film, but the film is not technically brilliant. Shots could have been better composed and the editing was also a bit shoddy.

Yugi’s premise was interesting but the execution clearly has issues.
