Telugu watchlist: ‘Salaar’, ‘Tillu Square’, and ‘Miss Shetty and Mr Polishetty’ hopeful to entertain audience this September

As the season of festivals begins this September, Tollywood has some promising films lined up for a scintillating show ahead.

Filmmakers have devised strategies to make complete use of Ganesh Chathurthi festivities that will kick off soon in the first week.

Kushi 

To begin with, Kushi brings together Vijay Deverakonda and Samantha Ruth Prabhu for the second time. They shared screen space in Nag Ashwin’s directorial Mahanati in 2018.

Kushi is a love story of two individuals belonging to different faiths. Vijay Deverakonda plays the role of Viplav, an employee with the State-run telecom company BSNL. Samantha will be seen as Aradhya, a corporate professional working for iLabs Centre.

How they embark on a journey of marriage forms the crux.

Sachin Khedekar, Saranya Ponvannan, Murali Sharma, Rohini, Vennela Kishore, Jayaram, Rahul Ramakrishna, comedian Ali, and Srikanth Iyengar are part of the cast.

Shiva Nirvana is the director. Y Ravi Shankar and Naveen Yerneni produced the film under the banner Mythri Movie Makers.

The singles for which the music is rendered by Hesham Abdul Wahab have become a raging hit all over the internet.

The film is being released on 1 September in Telugu. The dubbed versions of Tamil, Malayalam, Kannada, and Hindi will also be released simultaneously.

Miss Shetty Mr Polishetty 

Naveen Polishetty’s much-awaited release Miss Shetty Mr Polishetty is a quirky comedy that primarily revolves around a BTech graduate named Siddu (played by Naveen) who ventures into stand-up comedy.

He accidentally bumps into Anushka Shetty who wants to become pregnant without marriage. How do these soul-level relationships lead to?— is the story in short.

Anushka Shetty is returning to the Telugu silver screen after a three-year hiatus.

Debutante Mahesh has directed the film. The film already generated a positive buzz with its posters and the trailer.

After the success of Agent Sai Srinivasa Athreya in 2019 and Jathi Ratnalu in 2021, Naveen will hit a hat trick with this film, if this comedy entertainer picks up positive talk on the first day.

Miss Shetty Mr Polishetty is releasing on 7 September.

Skanda

Ram Pothineni and Sreeleela starrer Skanda is an action-packed commercial potboiler that is releasing in multiple languages on 8 September.

Written and directed by Boyapati Sreenu, the film is produced by Srinivasaa Chitturi under the banner Srinivasaa Silver Screen in collaboration with Zee Studios.

After biting the dust at the box office with consecutive flops — Red (2021) and The Warriorr (2022) — Ram Pothineni bets big with Skanda.

The film boasts Prince Cecil, Sharath Lohithaswa, Daggubati Raja, Srikanth, Babloo Prithiveeraj, Saiee Manjrekar, Gauthami and Indraja as key characters.

S Thaman scored the music.

Tillu Square 

Siddhu Jonnalagadda carved a niche for himself in the Tollywood industry with his eponymous character DJ Tillu, which was released in 2022.

The sequel to the film, Tillu Square, is releasing on 15 September.

It casts Siddhu as the protagonist and Anupama Parameswaran as the female lead.

The movie is directed by Mallik Ram and produced by Suryadevera Naga Vamsi under Sithara Entertainments banner.

Tillu Square enters the fray amidst massive expectations from the audience. The craze was generated, because of its prequel DJ Tillu which was a massive commercial hit last year.

Salaar

Salaar: Part 1 – Ceasefire is another massive film from Prabhas which is hitting theatres in multiple languages on 28 September.

Action thriller film written and directed by Prashanth Neel, Salaar is produced by Vijay Kiragandur under the Hombale Films banner.

It stars Prabhas in the titular role. Prithviraj Sukumaran, Shruti Haasan, Jagapathi Babu, Tinnu Anand, Easwari Rao, Sriya Reddy, and Ramachandra Raju are playing prominent roles.

The principal photography of Salaar began in January 2021 near the coal belt of Singareni in Telangana’sGodavarikhani.

The film has the shades of KGF (2018 & 2022) which was also directed by Prashanth Neel.

The music is by Ravi Basrur and the cinematography is by Bhuvan Gowda.
