Telugu sensation Vijay Deverakonda gave away cheques of ₹1 lakh each to 100 families at the “Spreading Kushi” event in Hyderabad on Friday, 15 September.
On the occasion, Vijay Deverakonda recalled the worst financial struggles he faced in his life.
He said, “I want to do so many things for you. The love and affection that I’ve been receiving from you is precious. At one point in my life, I too was in a position where I thought it would be good if someone could help me financially. When we were struggling to pay my brother’s (Anand Deverakonda) engineering fee, I too felt that someone could give us some money.”
The actor further added, “But I didn’t like to ask anyone. Now, I passed all the hurdles and stood as a family. Now, if I am in a position to help you. It is my personal wish. I am happy if this small contribution can help you.”
Post the announcement of financial aid by Vijay, his team received more than 50,000 applications from people from various walks of life. They selected 100 families from the lot.
“I could help a few more next year. As long as I keep doing films, I’ll keep helping you,” he added.
Kushi director Shiva Nirvana along with producers (Mythri Movie Makers) Naveen Yerneni and Y Ravi Shankar were present at the event.
The romantic family entertainer was released at the box office on 1 September. It received positive reviews from both audiences and critics. But it could not hold the momentum further after the weekend.
Kushi is expected to hit the OTT giant Netflix on 6 October.
