Made with ₹35 crore budget, the film tanked miserably in 2020 and left a hole in the pockets of producers and distributors.
Who would anyone want to create a rift with a person so warm and welcoming? None would have dreamt that actor Vijay Deverakonda would have a foe in the industry who could attack him so blatantly on X.
The tweet from distributor Abhishek Nama, the producer and founder of Abhishek Pictures, ruffled a few feathers in the industry on Tuesday, 5 September.
Fans and netizens came in support of Deverakonda and questioned why an actor should pay for the losses of a producer.
Will the same producer share his revenue with an actor if he gains good profits from a movie? Just because Vijay Deverakonda is donating something to someone doesn’t mean he would pay for the losses of producers, they all wondered.
This is uncalled for. Isn’t it?
Will the production house raise the same question on social media if the hero belongs to any of the big families from Tollywood? #JustAsking
Also, the same production house distributed Arjun Reddy in the West Godavari. How much from the profits… https://t.co/uKsQNt8YJ4

Directed by Kranthi Madhav, World Famous Lover tanked miserably when it was released in February 2020. Made with a budget of ₹35 crore, the Telugu film left a hole in the pockets of producers and distributors.
Senior producer KS Rama Rao of Creative Commercials faced an even more serious financial mess following the debts. He had to mortgage his house.
Rumours were further stoked during the release of World Famous Lover that Vijay Deverakonda wasn’t treated well by the producer.
The media reports claimed that Abhishek Nama placed a proposal before the actor stating that he should sign a movie with him to recover the losses.
But, during the time of Liger (2022), Deverekonda reportedly conveyed a message to Nama that doing a film with him was highly doubtful since he was not doing one with Telugu producers.
Dear @TheDeverakonda ,
We lost 8 crs in the distribution of #WorldFamousLover, but no one responded over it!!Now as you are donating 1CR to the families with your big heart, Kindly requesting & Hoping for you to save us and our Exhibitors & Distributors families also 🤗❤️… pic.twitter.com/dwFHytv1QJ

Fans of Vijay Deverakonda came in support of the actor. They questioned if producers ask the same thing to star heroes like Ram Charan and Jr NTR.
Would producer DVV Danayya of Vinaya Vidheya Rama (2019) ask someone like Ram Charan from the Megastar family to recover the losses?
Interestingly, apart from fans, none from the industry left a tweet in favour of Deverakonda.
Such rifts and misunderstandings between actors and producers worsen because of various reasons. Sometimes, it could be because actors don’t respond to the calls when producers ask them to return their remuneration when the film flops.
I am not sure if #VijayDeverakonda himself is paid in full for his work in films like #Liger and #WorldFamousLover.

Sometimes, the issue may not even be money. Egoes from both sides might flare up leading to such squabbles. The absence of a strong internal body leads to such problems.
Tussles between actors and producers were not new. It is now, it was there in the past too.
Producer-actor Late Dasari Narayana Rao would solve any problem related to Telugu cinema back in those days. Both parties would eventually arrive at a solution amicably.
But now, such silly quarrels spill over to public domains at the cost of their production house’s reputation. And association bodies in the film industry continue to thrive for namesake.
Yesteryear stars like Superstar Late actor Krishna and Rajinikanth, too, faced such bitter situations. However, the broader understanding of aspects in movie making made them more pragmatic.
Both actors and investors (producers) would protect each other. If a producer suffers a loss, the actor would promise him to do a film and forgo his remuneration if required.
Late actor Krishna would generously come forward to rescue producers. After making his entry into films in 1965, he was in a position where he started producing his films all by himself.
Forty percent of his films were produced by him. So, he knew the pain of a producer and never let anyone down.
Rajinikanth, too, became a producer after entering films in 1975.
Movies like Narasimha (2001) and Baba (2002) were produced by himself. Comparing them with Vijay isn’t fair.
Though Vijay Deverakonda is a producer, technically, he has barely found a grip. Compared to the stars, he is not so financially off to forgo a film’s remuneration.
South Superstars like Mammootty and Mohanlal reportedly helped some producers who lost their money when their films bombed at the box office.
However, the actors didn’t reveal this anywhere and all this information is hushed up within the industry.
Producer Listin Stephen, who produced Prithviraj Sukumaran’s Vimanam in 2017, suffered a huge loss as it didn’t do well in theatres.
In an interview, Listin said that he approached Prithviraj and asked if he could act in his next movie. Then, they did Brother’s Day in 2019.
Later, they came together to make more films. Jana Gana Mana (2022) and Driving Licence (2019) are some of their successful films after they collaborated together in producing movies.
