Vijay Deverakonda at the Kushi success meet

₹1 crore aid to 100 families — How big is Vijay Deverakonda’s heart, you might wonder.

The Telugu actor announced that he would share a part of the remuneration he was paid for the recently released film Kushi with 100 families — ₹1 lakh each. The announcement came at Kushi success meet held in Hyderabad on Monday, 4 September.

Perhaps, he could be the only actor in Telugu cinema to generously announce cash — to talk in market jargon — sharing profits with the consumers.

Netizens are in wonder at his decision. Fans share his videos on Twitter calling him “God”. Some even aimed vitriolic trolls at Powerstar Pawan Kalyan by tagging him. His intentions by all means could be genuine.

Making a statement

But why can’t he do it silently? Why does he have to announce on the public stage, that too, during the success meet of Kushi?

There are star actors in Telugu cinema who are genuinely involved and still continue to do charity.

Veteran actor-politician Late Krishnam Raju developed a culture in his family to generously help fans. Prabhas has been continuing it.

Samantha Ruth Prabhu does charity through her Pratyusha Foundation.

Jr NTR, too, consciously helps people in need. Not to mention, even Sampoornesh Babu does his bit.

A relatively small actor who doesn’t do films frequently, Sampoornesh Babu helped the poor several times — be it by giving away as little as ₹50,000 or the gold he saved over the years. But he never hogged the headlines nor did his name trend on social media.

Fan-building activity?

Vijay Deverakonda could be genuine by heart. He also made a splash with Devera Santa — the truck filled with ice creams and food parcels for fans and people on the roadside dwellings and footpaths.

Never know how much of these food parcels satiated the hunger of the needy. But it certainly ticks the box of fan-building activity which is more popular with Hollywood stars.

Because only such things make an actor more popular. But only time can tell.

Kushi collections

Kushi, which was released on 1 September amidst massive expectations at the box office, fell flat on Monday, 4 September.

The film opened to positive reviews when it arrived in theatres worldwide. It collected a whopping ₹30 crore gross worldwide on the opening day.

However, the box office collections fell to ₹10 crore each on 2 and 3 September. On Monday, the revenue fell further to ₹4 crore.

Produced by Mythri Movie Makers and directed by Shiva Nirvana, the film was predicted to be a musical hit with romantic numbers like “Na Roja Nuvve“, Kushi title song, and “Aradhya” being raved by music lovers and audiences alike.
