Tovino Thomas bags Best Asian Actor at Septimius Awards 2023

Tovino Thomas with the Best Asian actor Septimus Awards 2023

Tovino Thomas has been a successful actor in the Malayalam film industry. He entered filmdom by taking up small roles and started doing lead roles in the later years.

He also became the first lead actor to play the role of a superhero in Basil Joseph’s directorial Minnal Murali (2021) which received a good response from the audience.

His recent release 2018: Everyone is a Hero (2023) was a tremendous hit and also entered the ₹100-crore club.

Further, Tovino Thomas received the SIIMA Award for Best Actor in a Popular Role for his performance in Thallumaala (2022).

And now, he is in the news yet again for having clinched another award. His performance in 2018 earned him the award for Best Asian Actor at the Septimius Awards 2023 which was held in Amsterdam on Tuesday, 26 September.

Tovino Thomas is the first South Indian actor to receive the Septimius Awards. The Septimius Awards gives its emphasis on discovering and encouraging new independent talent.

According to the Septimus website, it also supports visionary films and brings together all elements of film-making and storytelling, which includes fiction, non-fiction, animation, television series and scripts.

Meanwhile, Tovino expressed his happiness through a post on Instagram. “Our greatest glory is not in never falling, but in rising every time we fall. In 2018, Kerala began to fall when unexpected floods knocked on our doors. But then the world saw what Keralites were made of….:”

He further wrote: “Thank you SEPTIMIUS AWARDS, for selecting me as the Best Asian Actor. It will always remain close to my heart… What makes this international recognition special is that this is for my performance in the movie 2018. This one… is for Kerala.”

Future films

2018, directed by Jude Anthany Joseph was based on the deadly floods that affected Kerala in 2018. The movie had an emotional connection with the majority of the audience who had faced the havoc faced by the floods.

Tovino is known as a passionate actor and he has also been in the news for doing daring fight scenes.

Recently, he was injured during the shooting of his upcoming movie Nadikar Thilakam directed by Jean Paul.  He was earlier injured during the shooting of the Edakkad Battalion (2019).

The Malayalam actor has a handful of movies in his kitty. His Ajayante Randam Moshanam and Nadikar Thilagam are big-budget films. The shooting of Identity, a thriller, began recently.

Tovino will also be part of Prithviraj’s Empuraan, a sequel to Mohanlal’s Lucifer (2019).
