The Malayalam cinema shined at the 69th National Film Awards ceremony as some key awards were bagged by Malayalam filmmakers.
The awards event was organised at Vigyan Bhawan in Delhi on Tuesday, 17 October.
Here’s the list of Malayalam film personalities who received the honours from the President of India Draupadi Murmu:
Home
Malayalam actor Indrans, who played the role of Oliver Twist in the movie Home, got a special mention for his acting at the 69th National Awards.
The movie also received the Best Malayalam Film Award.
Released in 2021, Home is considered one of the best feel-good films in Malayalam. It was premiered via Amazon Prime and received a good reception from the audience.
It is directed by Rojin Thomas and produced by Vijay Babu under his Friday Productions banner.
Meppadiyan (2022) director Vishnu Mohan received the Indira Gandhi Award for Best Debut Film of a Director.
It marked actor Unni Mukundan’s debut production venture. It also featured Unni Mukundan in the lead. The movie was well-received by the family audience.
Unni’s father received the award on behalf of the production house UMF.
Later, the actor wrote an emotional note on social media after the award ceremony: “Today, I stand tall as a proud son, happily looking at my father receiving his National Recognition from the Honourable President.”

Nayattu (2021) was an intense movie about the caste system prevailing in the police department. A realistic movie, it had Kunchako Boban and Joju George in the lead roles.
Nimisha Sajayan appeared in a significant role.
Directed by Martin Prakkat., Nayattu was lauded by critics for its content and taking.
Shahi Kabir’s script was widely applauded, and he won the National Award for Best Screenplay.
