Last year, a Tamil speech by Tollywood producer Dil Raju at the pre-release event of Varisu (2023) — Varasudu in Telugu — became viral on social media.
Explaining an incident, Dil Raju faltered in finding the right words and said, “I am waiting in the cabin to meet someone. Sir entered with two coffee cups…”
The speech included phrases like “Dance Venuma Dance Irukku, Fight Venuma Fight Irukku… “It’s Irukku.. It’s Irukku“. Later, his Tamil speech became a sensation with various memes surfacing all over the internet.
Netizens feel that Dil Raju continued the trend for 2024 Sankranthi, too. The producer provided another viral phrase for meme enthusiasts — “Thaata Theestha“.
He uttered the word during a film launch event. The phrase gained popularity since then.
During the pre-release event of Guntur Kaaram held in Guntur city on Tuesday night, 9 January, event host Suma Kanakala used the phrase as a satire.
Following this, the phrase “Thaata Theestha” by Dil Raju became a highlight of Guntur Kaaram pre-release event.
Well, the phrase “Thaata Theestha” went viral when Dil Raju uttered it after losing his cool when a few fringe news portals twisted his comments.
Dil Raju, also the President of the Film Chamber, conducted a meeting with the producers of all Sankranthi releases to address the issue. However, some web portals reportedly misrepresented his statement.
Responding strongly over the news, he expressed his frustration and said, “I have been going smoothly about such media narratives. But I don’t want to remain silent anymore. If this continues, ‘Thaata Theestha‘. I have been facing such controversies during Sankranthi releases for the past eight years,” he said.
Dil Raju also disapproved of the reports in the media that he was distributing a Tamil dubbing film (Ayalaan). He clarified that he postponed the Telugu-dubbed film to ensure a smooth release for the Telugu movies this Sankranthi.
