Sanjay Dutt, who made his splashing Southern debut with KGF: Chapter 2 (2022), has become the most sought-after star from Bollywood for South Indian filmmakers.

After being featured in Lokesh Kanagaraj’s Leo (2023), Bollywood actor Sanjay has a clutch of South Indian films gearing up for release in the next few months.

The industry grapevine has it that the 64-year-old Munna Bhai MBBS star has been signed for a crucial role in SS Rajamouli’s upcoming pan-Indian project with Mahesh Babu.

Tentatively titled SSMB29, the flick is tipped to be an action adventure along the lines of the Indiana Jones series of movies.

A source confirmed that Sanjay Dutt has been signed but the makers of SSMB29 are holding back on making the official announcement. “There’s still a lot of casting to be done,” the source added.

SSMB29 marks the maiden collaboration of SS Rajamouli with Mahesh Babu.

Written by Rajamouli’s father Vijayendra Prasad along with SS Kanchi, the pan-Indian film will predominantly be shot in the forests of Africa.

The movie, to be produced by KL Narayana under Sri Durga Arts, is all set to go on floors later this year.

A few days ago, Rajamouli was asked about an update on the project during the press conference of Baahubali: Crown of Blood – an animated TV series from the world of Baahubali.

Responding to the question, Rajamouli said this wasn’t the right time to talk about the project and that he would share updates at the right time.

SSMB29 will have music by Oscar-winning composer MM Keeravani, who’s said to have already begun work on the film.

The rest of the cast and crew are yet to be officially announced.

Vijayendra Prasad recently clarified that not the entire movie would be shot in forests. Nonetheless, portions of it will be shot in forests throughout Africa.
