Bobby Deol joins Jr NTR's 'Devara' to play villain along with Saif Ali Khan? (X)
Bollywood actor Saif Ali Khan is already part of Jr NTR’s magnum opus Devara, featuring Janhvi Kapoor as the leading lady. The latest news is that Jr NTR’s highly anticipated film Devara has added Bobby Deol to its cast.
Reports indicate that Bobby Deol will play a villain, similar to Saif Ali Khan, with a significant role in Devara: Part 2.
The Hindustan Times reports that discussions with Bobby Deol are nearing completion. He will portray an antagonist in Devara, with Saif Ali Khan being the primary villain in Part 1. Although, hearsay is that both actors will have prominent antagonist roles in Part 2.
The film marks Janhvi Kapoor’s debut in Telugu cinema and her first collaboration with Jr NTR.
According to confirmed reports, “Janhvi Kapoor’s role in Devara: Part 1 will be limited, with most of her scenes appearing in the second part. However, her role is quite exciting.”
In a recent interview with Mashable India, Janhvi Kapoor expressed her excitement about working with Jr NTR, saying, “I just shot a song with Jr NTR sir and can’t wait to shoot our next one. I’m eager to dance with him.”
At the India Today Conclave in 2023, she described working with Jr NTR as a dream, noting, “I recently re-watched RRR. The magnitude of his charisma… sharing the screen with him will be one of the greatest joys of my life.”
Directed by Koratala Siva, Devara is set against coastal landscapes. The film also stars Ramya Krishnan and, reportedly, Chaitra Rai, though her involvement has not been officially confirmed yet.
Like RRR (2022), Devara is expected to showcase high-octane action sequences. The Telugu film is being produced on a substantial budget, with reports indicating that ₹140 crore is allocated for VFX alone. It is rumoured that 33 percent of the movie’s budget is dedicated to special effects.
Devara marks Jr NTR’s 30th film, where he is set to portray both a father and son. In January, Jr NTR unveiled the film’s first poster, featuring him on a boat in the sea, with a serious expression and dressed in a shirt and black pants.
Recently, trade analyst Taran Adarsh announced on social media that Devara’s release has been postponed from 27 September to 10 October 2024.
Devara is produced by Nandamuri Kalyan Ram, Sudhakar Mikkileni, and Kosaraju Harikrishna under the Yuvasudha Arts banner. It reunites Jr NTR with director Koratala Siva following their successful collaboration on Janatha Garage (2016).
The film features music by Anirudh Ravichander, with Rathnavelu as the cinematographer, A Sreekar Prasad handling editing, and Sabu Cyril responsible for production design.
The South film industry is making the most of Bollywood talent by offering compelling roles that are hard to refuse. Bobby Deol, making his debut in non-Hindi cinema, will also play the antagonist in Suriya’s upcoming film Kanguva, directed by Siva of Siruthai (2011) fame.
