Yogi Babu to be part of Rajinikanth's 'Jailer 2'

Jailer, the 2023 action thriller, marked Rajinikanth’s first collaboration with filmmaker Nelson Dilipkumar. Also, it became one of Tamil cinema’s biggest hits, setting numerous box office records.

Rajinikanth and Nelson are set to reunite for the sequel, Jailer 2. Yogi Babu, who plays a key role in the franchise, recently shared updates about the sequel in an interview with Tamil YouTube channel Cineulagam.

The actor discussed his long-standing collaboration with Nelson, starting with the director’s debut film Kolamavu Kokila (2018). Yogi Babu confirmed that he would work with Nelson again on Jailer 2, praising him for writing special roles for him in all his films, with Jailer 2 being the latest.

While Yogi Babu did not disclose details about his role in Jailer 2, his comments suggest a significant part of this highly anticipated project.

Rajinikanth will reprise his role as Muthuvel Pandian IPS in Jailer 2. Mohanlal and Shiva Rajkumar are expected to return as Mathew and Narasimha respectively, with new surprise cast additions.

Rumours suggest that Jailer 2 might include characters from Nelson’s debut film Kolamavu Kokila, potentially featuring Nayanthara. Anirudh Ravichander composed the music, and Sun Pictures produced the film.

In this ultra-violent crime drama, a retired jailer is compelled to seek vengeance years after retirement. The charismatic Rajinikanth adopts a restrained, low-key persona, only stepping into action when necessary.

Despite the film’s blockbuster elements, the superstar doesn’t quite embody the action hero of his earlier roles.

Jailer revolves around a father who goes to great lengths for his son, including confronting a criminal gang.

The film begins with Rajinikanth exploring black comedy, which succeeds in some areas but falls flat in others. The plot takes its time to dive into the main conflict, but Rajinikanth compensates for the film’s slow moments with his compelling performance.

Despite its criticism, Jailer is a film that celebrates the industry itself. Explosive cameos by Shiva Rajkumar, Jackie Shroff, and Mohanlal ignite the screen, and their interactions with Rajinikanth provide numerous whistle-worthy moments.

The Tamil film also includes nostalgic callbacks to Rajinikanth’s superhit movies like Baashha (1995) and Enthiran (2010), adding a memorable touch.
