The Rajinikanth-starrer grossed ₹96.6 crore worldwide and is set to touch the ₹100-crore mark on 12 August.
Movie lovers are going gaga over the scenes of Mohanlal and Shiva Rajkumar in superstar Rajinikanth’s latest release Jailer.
The film received a tremendous response from the audience across the world.
According to trade experts, Jailer grossed ₹96.6 crore worldwide. On Saturday, 12 August, it is expected to generate another ₹30 crore in the domestic market, thereby attaining ₹100-crore mark within three days of its release.
The action drama marked the perfect comeback for Superstar Rajinikanth whose previous two films Darbar (2020) and Annathe (2021) weren’t well-appreciated by the critics, though they did decent business at the box office.
Meanwhile, Jailer‘s director Nelson Dilipkumar is on cloud nine as his latest outing is minting money and garnered positive feedback from audiences.
The director was criticised for his previous movie with Thalapathy Vijay — Beast (2022) which failed to win the hearts of critics despite collecting ₹200 crore at the box office.
During the audio release of Jailer, Rajinikanth said he received several phone calls asking him to change the director (Nelson), but Sun Pictures and he decided to move ahead with Nelson.
Meanwhile, in an interview with Cinema Vikatan YouTube channel, filmmaker Nelson said he received many calls from Mohanlal after the release of Jailer stating that it got a good response from the Kerala audience.
“When I was writing Jailer‘s story, I thought of roping in several superstars in the movie — one character from Bihar, another from Kerala, and the other from Mangalore. So, I decided to cast Mohanlal sir and Shiva Rajkumar sir. I also thought of doing portfolios or taking pictures of them when I meet them in person,” he told the YouTube channel.
“Mohanlal sir called me to say that Jailer is doing a roaring business in the theatres across Kerala. Shiva Rajkumar sir too called me to say that his character is getting a good response from Kannada film lovers. He will watch Jailer in Mysore Saturday, 12 August,” Nelson added.
“When these superstars asked me if they could play much larger roles in my next movie, it really made me happy. Even I wanted Balayya (Nandamuri Balakrishna) to do a role in Jailer. A cameo role of a powerful police officer was in my mind for him. But it didn’t work out. So, I didn’t move forward with it,” the director told the YouTube Channel.

Meanwhile, in a video released by Kannada superstar Shiva Rajkumar, the actor said he is overwhelmed by the response showered by the audience on Jailer and his performance.
He thanked Nelson, Mohanlal, Jackie Shroff, and Rajinikanth for the opportunity to share the screen space with them, though in a cameo.
The Kannada movie buffs are going gaga over the pre-climax scenes in Jailer where Shiva Rajkumar appears with Rajinikanth. Even a few netizens are raving about the “killer looks” of Shivanna saying that he outdid Rajinikanth in Jailer!
