Ghilli re-release on 20 April

Tamil star hero Vijay aka Thalapathy Vijay is credited for delivering back-to-back superhits in his career. His previous films The Master (2021), Beast (2022), Varisu (2023), and Leo (2023) were all blockbuster hits that raked in over ₹200 crore at the global box office.

Interestingly, Vijay’s films are meant for mass audiences and critical analysis of his works doesn’t affect the collections.

His upcoming film Greatest of All Time (GOAT) is expected to become another mass megahit from the actor, who recently entered politics by launching his political party.

GOAT is drawing huge expectations since director Venkat Prabhu is helming the project.

Interestingly, at a time when films are celebrating their entry into ₹50-crore club, Vijay’s Ghilli collected ₹50 crore gross way back in 2004 itself.

After 20 long years, the movie is slated for a re-release on 20 April.

The advanced bookings have already commenced in Tamil Nadu and the neighbouring states besides overseas.

Good advanced bookings

Vijay, often referred to as the box-office king, has set the bells ringing at the box office once again.

According to trade experts, the remastered 4K version of Ghilli has already collected around ₹50 lakh in advanced bookings. It also witnessed good pre-sales in Singapore and other countries.

The film is expected to earn around ₹3-4 crore on day 1 (20 April). For a re-released film, Ghilli is also expected to become the all-time-highest-grosser on the opening day.

Upon its release in 2004, Ghilli was a blockbuster hit. The re-release will provide an opportunity for the new generation fans of Vijay to watch it in theatres.

Vijay and Trisha play the lead roles in Ghilli. Directed by Dharani, the Tamil flick is a remake of the Telugu film Okkadu, starring Mahesh Babu and Bhumika Chawla in the lead.

While the remastered version of Ghilli is gearing up for a grand re-release, it is not known if the makers have trimmed the original version.
