Dushara Vijayan on working for Dhanush's Raayan

Dushara Vijayan, who plays a key role in Dhanush’s Raayan, released on Friday (26 July), describes the film as a personal triumph.

The actor became a favourite in the Tamil film industry after her debut in Pa Ranjith’s Sarpatta Parambarai (2021).

Dushara Vijayan has been a long-time fan of Dhanush. She views working with him—especially on his directorial—as a significant career milestone. She shared that Dhanush is very precise as a director, clearly defining how he wants his characters and scenes to appear on screen.

The New Indian Express reported that Dushara was all praise for Dhanush’s ability to make even a pile of sand act. She noted that he seamlessly transitioned between his roles as actor and director in Raayan.

During her conversation, Dushara Vijayan revealed she plans to stop acting by age 35 to focus entirely on travelling.

She spoke about her memorable role as Mariamma in Sarpatta Parambarai, noting uncertainty about her character’s continuation in the sequel, but promising a more intense performance if she returns.

In an industry prone to typecasting, Dushara Vijayan aims to avoid stereotypes and take on roles that challenge her and showcase her full potential.

“I don’t use a checklist, but I first assess the challenge a character presents. I look at the character’s essence, the story, and the overall execution. Even if it’s a brief role, if it has the potential to connect with the audience, I’m game,” she explains.

In various interviews, Dushara Vijayan discussed her humble beginnings, saying she’s the first actor from her village and will continue to pour her heart and soul into her work. “I hope to inspire others from similar backgrounds to follow their dreams, serving as a living example for them.”

Besides Raayan, Dushara Vijayan stars in Vettaiyan alongside Rajinikanth. It also casts Amitabh Bachchan, Rana Daggubati, Fahadh Faasil, Ritika Singh, and Manju Warrier. The film is set to release on 10 October.

Directed by TJ Gnanavel of Jai Bhim (2021) fame, Vettaiyan is an entertainer with a message and marks Rajinikanth’s 170th film. Produced by Lyca Productions, the film is currently in post-production.

Dushara Vijayan is also filming Veera Dheera Sooran with Vikram, directed by SU Arun Kumar of Chithha (2023) fame.
