Bollywood actor Aamir Khan, who is awaiting the release of his upcoming film Sitare Zameen Par, in a closed media interaction, confirmed that he will collaborate with the Tamil director Lokesh Kanagaraj for a pan India superhero film.
The actor is also set to make his debut in Tamil with a special appearance in Lokesh’s upcoming film Coolie, starring Rajinikanth, which is set to release on 14 August.
According to The Hindu report, Aamir said, “Lokesh and I are doing a film together. It’s a superhero film — a big-scale action outing. The film will begin in the second half of 2026. We have both signed it. I cannot reveal anything further.”
In the same interaction, the actor also dismissed the rumours about a sequel to the 2014 film PK, and confirmed that he is working with Rajkumar Hirani for the Dadasaheb Phalke biopic.
Lokesh Kanagaraj known for his action thrillers, debuted with Maanagaram in 2017. He gained prominence with Kaithi (2019), which established the Lokesh Cinematic Universe (LCU). He followed it up with Master (2021).
His subsequent LCU films include Vikram (2022) and Leo (2023), both featuring intense action and themes of fighting against drug trafficking.
Aamir Khan’s latest theatrical release was Laal Singh Chaddha (2022), a remake of Forrest Gump (1994). He is now awaiting the release of Sitaare Zameen Par, on 20 June, directed by RS Prasanna and based on the 2018 Spanish film Champions, which focuses on Down Syndrome.
Touted as a gangster action film, Coolie will feature action sequences choreographed by the renowned Anbariv duo. The film is a standalone project and not part of the Lokesh Cinematic Universe, which includes Kaithi (2019), Vikram (2022), and Leo (2023).
Filming began in 2024 July, with Girish Gangadharan as the director of photography, and Philomin Raj handling the editing.
Lokesh Kanagaraj, alongside Chandhru Anbazhagan, has written the dialogues and additional screenplay for the film. The film will be released in Tamil, Hindi, Telugu, and Kannada.
