Aamir Khan and Lokesh Kanagaraj to collaborate on a pan-Indian project?

Reports suggest a possible collaboration between director Lokesh Kanagaraj and Bollywood actor Aamir Khan for a pan-Indian film under the production of Mythri Movie Makers. However, no official announcement has been made yet.

Lokesh Kanagaraj, a Tamil film director known for his action thrillers, debuted with Maanagaram in 2017. He gained prominence with Kaithi (2019), which established the Lokesh Cinematic Universe (LCU). He followed it up with Master (2021).

His subsequent LCU films include Vikram (2022) and Leo (2023), both featuring intense action and themes of fighting against drug trafficking. Lokesh Kanagaraj is currently working on Coolie starring Rajinikanth.

Aamir Khan’s latest theatrical release was Laal Singh Chaddha (2022), a remake of Forrest Gump (1994). He recently completed filming Sitaare Zameen Par, directed by RS Prasanna and based on the 2018 Spanish film Champions, which focuses on Down Syndrome.

Aamir Khan recently produced his ex-wife Kiran Rao’s film Laapataa Ladies (2024), which focuses on gender equality. The film was screened at the Supreme Court of India on 9 August, with Aamir attending the event. Kiran Rao posted pictures from the special evening on her Instagram page.

Further, Aamir Khan recently shared that he has long been pursuing a sequel to his classic film Sarfarosh (1999) and that the team is now seriously working on developing it.

The John Matthew Matthan directorial, which celebrated its 25th anniversary, is considered one of the best works of the actor.

“I’ve been asking John for years to make Sarfarosh 2. The film ended in a way that allowed for a sequel. I’ve told him that if he writes a compelling story, we can proceed with a sequel. John has now mentioned he’s working on it,” Aamir Khan said before the film’s screening.

“I can assure you that we will take a serious approach to developing the right script and creating a worthy sequel,” he added.

Released on 30 April 1999, Sarfarosh was both critically acclaimed and commercially successful, winning the National Film Award for Best Popular Film Providing Wholesome Entertainment.

On the other hand, Mythri Movie Makers is one of India’s most active and talked-about production houses. It boasts a stellar lineup of anticipated films.

This includes Pushpa 2: The Rule, Ram Charan’s projects (RC16 directed by Buchi Babu Sana and RC17 under Sukumar’s direction), a film with Prabhas directed by Hanu Raghavapudi, a collaboration with Pawan Kalyan and Harish Shankar, Ajith Kumar and director Adhik Ravichandran’s Good Bad Ugly, and a film featuring Sunny Deol.
